Received offer from Emirates

Hi,

flying EK60 un Thursday, in Y.
Received an offer for 538 (per person) to fly in Business.
It seems to high to me, right?

And from the load point of view, what does it mean exactly?
Economy full and business empty?

538 what? Rupees, Euro, Dollar?

Sorry...I mean Euro.
Flying HAM-DXB-HKG-DXB-HAM.
Paid 570 Euro, so 538 Euro for upgrade on onyl one leg makes no sense for me :)

If it makes no sense to you at that price with no other considerations, then clearly it is too high - however, a rough calculation to make is the incremental cost of purchasing J for that sector, which, if we say the special fare Europe-HKG is around 2700 EUR (assuming you would have bought the cheapest J fare available when you purchased your Y fare) then that works out about 675 a sector. Considering the cost of your Y ticket is 142.50 EUR a sector, then the incremental cost is about 532.5 EUR - which seems to be about right for the offer. However. If you were going to buy your ticket to HKG in J tomorrow, then you'll be paying 3100 EUR minimum - if you are going full J, then it rises to 4200 EUR - which if you were to fly on EK60 you could likely end up paying (depending on your return date). At those incremental cost differences, then I think you'll agree that you would be getting a good deal for 538 for one sector. Whether that's value for money is your own consideration of course.

If you are Gold or Platinum you may probably get upgraded anyway though.

I am Blue...let's see what happens at check-in :)

Don't think you need to wait to check-in for the answer !

They are probably alluding that you may not get an op-up. But there may be a chance that they may offer you a better price for a paid upgrade

Got also an offer: 350 US $ for an upgrade Y-> J, DXB - MUM, next week, the A380 flight.

That would be cool ! ^
But I will check-in +/-10 hours before that flight (connecting flight from Paris to Dubai prior to flying to Mumbai).
Don't they upgrade the late check-in gold members, when they have no other options to do so?

I doubt that flight is going full. It wasn't even going full when it was a 777 service...

Rest assured that check-in time typically doesn't have any effect on your op-up chances...

Greglem Oct 31, 2014 10:22 am

Thank you jackiedada.
Let's see.
It would be a good surprise and will help to sleep and relax a bit before landing in Mumbai at 02:15 am...

I read on another thread that it is suspected that op-ups are "assigned" over 24-hours in advance. Is this true?

I'm hoping that I am now eligible for op-ups now that I am a part of Skywards. Doubt I would get anything on LHR flights due to all the plats, but there are tons of op-ups on the flight home to DUR, as Y is always very oversold and J empty (2-class plane). Very status-light flight too.

Also could help that I know most of the staff there, as it is always the same staff checking in at the J counter and working at the gate.
