Sorry m3red... That was you.
My mistake but I typed that post very quickly, before using the lift at gate B15 and using the wifi from the lounge nearby...

Got also an offer: 350 US $ for an upgrade Y-> J, DXB - MUM, next week, the A380 flight.

BTW, one of the rare occurrences of a Gold receiving an upgrade offer, right?

I have never recieved an upgrade offer after becoming gold. Have you recieved any after becoming platinum?

Yes, quite a few. Always Y-J, never J-F. Always decline them and have about a 50% chance of actually getting an op-up, which is down from pretty much 100% when I was gold.

I have never received an offer either as a Gold (2005 -2013) or Platinum (2013 onwards).

Greglem Nov 10, 2014 10:53 am

As a Gold member, Ihave received 2 or 3 offers

I am not even silver and got one. ISB-DXB fro 350USD. I had my family travelling on a different PNR so couldn't get it but that didn't sound too bad. I wonder how much it would have been for DXB-IAH.

Gold member and got my first two ever just a couple of months ago Y - J.

Going by the theory on here that an upgrade might be forthcoming, I turned them both down. Ended up sitting in Y on both legs.

Guess EKs revenue managers are earning their pay by finding enough people to take them up on those offers :D

Perhaps - but I would think not.

On the assumption that an airline will only give op-ups when really needed, then 24 hours before departure is far too early.

Even if the flight is oversold in economy, and even if everyone booked in Economy class does eventually check-in (and most won't have checked in at all 24 hours in advance), they won't know until just before departure how many passengers actually turn up to take their seats. An incoming flight could be delayed, preventing a group of passengers from travelling onwards on their booked connection; a family or group could be delayed travelling to the airport; someone might change their plans at the last minute and go on an earlier or later flight instead; or some people just miss their flight for any of a multitude of reasons.

There may be times where they process some op-ups well in advance - but I really doubt that this is a common, standard feature of how EK processes op-ups.
