Platinum Status
 

Hi Guys

I am due to fly to JFK and back from CPT in J later this month. This trip will put me 375 miles short of platinum status (if you look at tier miles in a 12 month window). Do you think EK will push me over (I will have flown well over 150K in a 13 month window) or is there another way I can earn the 375 miles I would need?

They will not automatically do it. You'll need to write to them explaining your case. Typically, they oblige if people missout by < 500 miles or so, and I think you should make platinum....

I'd be interested to know if they've reduced them down, I always remember EK (an inside source) saying there were too many...

How would they reduce them without adjusting the tier miles bar or significantly adjusting the way tier miles are earned?

By giving a poor earn rate with fare families which is what they did since the introduction of plat.

Interesting to read through the thread and see that people thought the best benefit was that they'd be first to get op ups :D

Ah. Thought that happened before.

From memory, Plat was only introduced to align with the QF programme, so no surprises. An airline can't be so profitable for so long without being ruthless.

Allegedly still in the 6-8k range. Allegedly!

But that was a few months ago, so maybe now not so much - or at least those with Plat are still overhangs from previous travel and now aren't travelling at all because of work policy.

If I may ask a slightly unrelated question: I'm a little confused about the 12-month v 13- month qualifying period.

I qualified for Plat in Jan 2016 and had until 31 Jan 207 to re-qualify. I will be 26,000 miles short - however in Feb 2017 I have another that gets me 31,000 miles. So for the 13 month period from 01 Feb 2016 till 28 Feb 2017 I will have over 150,000 miles. Will this give me Platinum status again?

I'm in the same boat.

My year ends 31 Dec, I have 145k - I get 18k in Jan so will renew - you will simply change your renewal date to Feb.
