I don't ever remember showing my cc to ek for flights ex dubai or ex uk.

On my recent CMB-DXB-LHR-LAX trip, I had the same "need to present CC note" and indeed, I was asked for my CC at CMB.

I'm the same, but as noted above a booking made now is forcing the pax name into the cardholder box.

I don't know about EK specifically but I have flown on many airlines which have this rule (SQ, UA from some countries, many others in Asia) but have only once been asked to show a credit card. It's a chance you can take.

A friend on mine recently had this I think on a Korean airline... Card he booked with expired and was replaced...wouldn't let him fly had to rebook and pay I believe!!!

Had this twice at CMB checkin as well. They wouldn't issue a Boarding Card for online checkin so had to wait in checkin line.

How stupid

What odds a thief would manage to steal a card with his exact name as on passport then go book a flight then forget to bring that credit card with him!

trotski Feb 25, 2013 3:13 pm

TG are anal about this, no credit card, pay again or no flight, hence I dont use them as a lost or stolen card whilst travelling could cause major problems.

Ex UK on EK you can pay online by Paypal and then no credit card issues at all.

We were denied boarding at KUL yesterday as the CC was upgraded to a higher tier by the bank and had a different number than the one used to purchase the ticket.

Silly rule as I had all my ID with me and could show them the e-ticket on my 'phone... Rang the bank and had them talk to EK's check-in staff but they wouldn't budge even after they asked me to write down my postal/residential addresses & contact numbers and confirmed that they, indeed, matched those on their records!

Had to purchase two more C Class tickets to board and was told to call Emirates in MEL for a refund of the original ticket which, BTW, was the first leg of a return... could have the same problem with the second leg(?) - to avoid that calamity I'll get a copy of the statement showing the initial transaction to prove purchase.

So how does it work when someone else pays your ticket? Poor ahmed777 or what about when my company pays mine?

There are differing rules depending on the country

For some, payment can only be made online if one of the passengers is travelling and may need to be presented. If not , it has to be paid in another manner and no issue not having the credit card ( e.g. at an EK office or travel agent ). In this case, when on the payment page online, the name of cardholder is restricted in what it can be set to

e.g. making a booking from Tunis, there is a big green box at the top of Review Itinerary screen that states

If then paying online ( rather than holding for payment at EK office within 3 days ) , the cardholder surname is not a free format text field, but is a dropdown pick list from the list of surnames of passengers in the booking

In others, such as UK, as per the OP's question, if the credit card holder is travelling, then may be required to show it, however if the credit card holder is not travelling, then it will not be required to be shown. I suspect that EK, like BA, do additional card security checks when doing payments where the card holder is not travelling

When "poor ahmed777" travels or if you travel with company paying online , assuming he is travelling from a country where it isn't a requirement for cardholder to be travelling, it is not an issue for someone else to pay for it online

This thread starting was a storm in a teacup. In the OP's situation there was no issue.

Is it 1st April?

I have always avoided this by buying the tkts thru Expedia. Same tier miles, same F/C seat, same everything.

At HK airport sometimes they ask to see my CC, sometimes not. There seems no fixed rule. I always pay for my flights online by CC. Unluckily the one time that my CC number had been changed by my bank between booking and the flight they did want to see it. But actually they were very helpful, and phoned my CC company who confirmed the change, and they let me board no problem.

You're lucky with your location.

Expedia UK removes most of the rights that you would get if booked direct on Emirates.com.
