Dubai Connection

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place, but I've tried to search through as much as I can but cant see a definitive answer regarding Dubai stopovers.

I'm flying out of Birmingham in November travelling to Bangkok with a stopover in Dubai in both the outbound and returning flights. However the returning flight stopover is around 20 hours.

This is fine by me really as it would be nice to stop over there and take a look around etc, however I've seen conflicting information on whether Emirates provide a complimentary hotel room for the night? Can anyone confirm for me whether this is true or not? I've spoken to the Emirates call center who say that because there is an earlier flight for that journey then I'm not eligible, is this correct?

If this is all true then thats fine, but in that case are there any hotels that anyone could recommend to book out nearby? And could I need to collect my luggage between the connecting flights, or is it a case of making sure I have enough in my hand luggage?

Forgive me if all this is a bit of a stupid question but having never had a connecting flight, or been to dubai, I'm a bit uncertain of what to expect so would like a little advice

Thanks for any help!

The agent was correct, you won't be entitled to a free hotel in this case.

As for hotels, I'd always recommend the Le Meridien Dubai our the Al Bustan Rotana. Both very close to the airport, and there are 20+ good restaurants between them (plus bars!).

You can leave your luggage to connect, or pick it up at Dubai.

perfect, thanks for the help

out of interest, do you know if there are any good 'attractions' to take a look at whilst we're there? Our flight arrives at 7:30pm and we leave at 3:30pm the next day. Does it take long to get round in Dubai or are we better off staying close to the airport?

Thanks again for your help

There's an open top bus tour that goes from the City Centre Mall (right where the taxi would drop you, very close to the airport). It takes you to all the sights, and takes around 3 hours if you don't get off.

I missed a connection due to delay on KUL-DXB leg and do was put up by Emirates. Quite a few of us in same situation took an evening city tour from the hotel which lasted about 3 hours and gsve s reasonable feel for the city.

There really is so much to see and do in Dubai that you should have no problem coming up with some ideas that appeal directly to you if you do some research on line. Once you have a short list feel free to post it or PM me and we can tell you what we think of your ideas.
