Correct, you cannot do a double upgrade. Refer to section 13.2 of the T&C's
Only a single cabin upgrade is permissible e.g. Economy to Business Class, or Business to First Class. On flights offering only Economy and First Class, a double upgrade between Economy and First class is permissible at twice the applicable Miles.
However, you can go from Y to F in the following manner. For example, if you used miles to upgrade your flight from Y to J, and then got to the airport, EK can then op-up you from J to F. This has happened to me several times. Obviously load and route dependent.

You are right, but I wasn't asking for a double upgrade. It would be a fare on a reward and then upgrade to J.

Just to need a quick confirmation by the forum: If someone is booked on a reward ticket in Y, he cannot upgrade with miles to J, correct?

Are you asking because a roundtrip award in J is more miles than a roundtrip Y award with roundtrip upgrade? Or you only have enough miles for a one-way upgrade?

I don't see why it would not be possible but I think it would just be called something else - such as a J class award! :p

Correct, I only want to do it one-way (night flight).

Then you can just book a multi class reward instead of overcomplicating things :)

That is an idea I haven't thought of!

So J one leg and Y one leg?

Yes. J Saver + Y Saver should work if both are available.

Here comes the issue, if you book one way award flights, you have totake the expensive FLEX points.

Upgrade Email Rates + My Feedback

I love Emirates and the service/food on board in the economy. I use the free expertflyer account to see and book/change seats with the seats next to me empty and it always is a great sleeping flight for me!! Sometimes when I have slept and missed my vegetarian meals and when they have run out of the vegetarian option they have even gone to business class and got me something vegetarian to eat. I guess the onboard service also depends on how you behave and how you ask.

Just wanted to give my feedback on the email upgrade rates from Economy to Businesss. They are roughly 50% of the total cost of Business Class cheapest fare online if you accept all the upgrade offers. Atleast this seems to be for the SFO-India sector. For example SFO-India business class was $4750 while upgrades offered totalled almost $2350 if you took all the flights offers.

They seem to always email me 3 to 4 days before first leg of the journey for the first flight and then usually 48 hrs before other legs of journey for my onward flights after stopover and return etc. I usually take EK from San Francisco to India via Dubai. I stop over at Dubai usually 2 to 4 days. Always book online. Got these email upgrade emails when I was Blue and now when I am Silver too. Got one for my next flight leaving in 2 days. The rates for upgrade offered by email have been same and are
SFO-DXB US$990
DXB-SFO AED 2740
DXB-MAA AED 605
MAA-DXB INR 5500
The flights were quite empty in economy even when these emails were sent.
The $990 is a great value for a 15.5hr flight if you have to arrive and start working like I have to. I wish it gave higher miles and drive to airport. Lounge access is only on departure.

I also got one free upgrade from BOM-DXB where they told me it will be business class cabin with economy service. We got served economy class food trays but the seats/TV/Headphones were great!! I was blue then.

Never got any upgrade after being silver but saw DXB staff giving away random upgrades to people at gate for DXB-SFO flights many times and they were not even status/skywards members.

Any comments/experiences will be highly appreciated.

I didn't say you should book two one ways. You can book a return redemption in mixed classes. When you search by schedule, just pick whichever class you want. Make sure the inbound is less than 3 months after the outbound though.
