Too early to request a seat?

I have a booking for December BKK - LHR on 14th back 29th. If I try to request a seat on line it just says "error with the information entered". The Thailand call centre also could not get the system to request a seat. Has anyone come across this before? I could see nothing on the web site which suggested that there was a time before which seats could not be requested. The call centre suggested that might be the reason but they weren't sure. Has anyone else come across this? (I know it is a long time ahead, but once purchased I would have thought there should be the ability immediately to request a seat.)

Well, EK.com can't even price the flight, let alone let you select the seat. I reckon the problem is it's too early - though I don't know how you purchased a ticket then.

Well, I did, honest! Had to choose the "schedule" option, not either of the "price" options.

They don't. I think you need to call to have those assigned. I've never been on a booking with an infant so I don't know if having one on the booking is enough to be able to select the seat online.

Depends on your route and when you fly. No harm booking ahead, as you don't want to be stuck without the bassinet seats. For example, DXB-SIN there's hardly ever any infants, but if you get on a flight to the Sub continent when school holidays start, there will be too many infants for your own sanity.

I've never tried particularly early, but when we've flown with our little dependent, purchasing tickets two or three weeks prior to the flight, they were always able to get us bassinet seats over the phone.

I suspect they would displace travelers without infants to different seats pretty much at any time, up to and including an hour before departure. They're very nice to parents and families.

To be honest, it would be doing those people a favor anyway, since the bassinet seats are the least comfortable on the plane. They only become great when compared with the alternative of a baby on your lap for 12 hours.

I hope you weren't referring to full size (and some times over sized) passengers sitting in the bassinet. That would be the day.

But the bulkhead seats, sans bassinet, are one of the most comfortable on the aircraft, in my opinion. At least on the aircraft where you have additional leg space.

The apparently not so great bassinet seats are the ones in Y. I don't think the ones in F are any different from other F seats, are they?

Yep sure seats are the same but the website will not let me book them, assuming because they are bassinet positions.

I have now been able to request seats. Not sure if the contact with the call centre did the trick or if it was just a bug in the system.

Hmm, I'm trying to select seats for LHR-DXB in October, am able to select the outward on a 777 but not the return leg on the A380, same error message as OP... Call centre couldn't do it either and advised trying in a few days.... will report back.

Just tried again and am able to book seats on the November return A380 leg. Looks like the first to book so must have just been fixed/opened up.
