I am doing a phd at uni; I get the Gold from flying 2 long hauls a year in F (and few side trips).
I was wondering the same thing as the OP; but having tasted the perks and downs of being a corporate poo cleaner for a short period with Accenture few years ago, I now prefer to have a settled job which leaves the bits of enjoying flying to holidays, specially that I found myself enjoying even more when flying with my wife even if that was out of my own pocket. |

sorry for being offtopic, I am actually really interested in what frequent flyer's job here on FT. So who else is a management consultant (corporate poo asscleaner?)
I also would like to here more about travel policies, i.e. which classes to be taken on what flight durations. |

"Management Consultants" = the biggest bunch of shysters on the planet. ;)
But we do fly a lot. |

I also would like to here more about travel policies, i.e. which classes to be taken on what flight durations. Get it on! The travel policy can be summed up as - If billing someone, everything has to be FC & 5* - If paying for it, -Flights under two hours in Y -Employees obviously keep the miles/points/etc-Flights over two hours in J -Applies to everyone including Board/CEO/COO (Not sure why the travel policy states that because they get to use shiny jets of their own ) -Hotels are always 5* -Employees have the option to select airline/hotel as long as it works with the schedule and the cost differential is not astronomical ( Have gotten away with a crazy routing s for miles+airplane-fun in the past ) -Expense accounts are not capped, but no one is allowed to hand in receipts for drugs, strippers and the occasional cigar. Unless the receipt says "Miscellaneous - $ 500" rather than 10 gm coke, two lapdances, one Bill-Clinton-Special ( They take the smoking bit seriously for some reason and as a smoker I agree with them ) |
I'm a corporate lawyer in Dubai and don't get to travel much for work :( All my EK travel is personal, although I made Silver last year. Doubt I'd get to Gold without needing to fly a few places for work though.
Anyway, I'm looking to move out of law onto the commercial side. Maybe that will offer more travel opportunities :) We should have a FT do in Dubai! |

I am a PhD student sponsored by my government. I also lecture at a university (on hold until I finish studies). I personally pay for my tickets, however, I fish for great deals and always get them. I can say that 50% or a little less of my tickets are half priced, due to a collection of formulas I use. I fly long haul flights (always on EK) 6-10 times a year.
