Tier Miles / Rollover

I see from my statement:-

Balance 266,548 31 Mar 2012 20,998

Tier Status Summary

Current Status....Achieved On.........Tier Miles
GOLD.................05 Jan 2010.........152,101 (since achievement)

Congratulations. You have achieved the required tier miles to renew your Gold status next year. Your new card will be sent to you after your review date.
See detailed tier status

Whats all this about? I thought the requirement was to maintain 50k by end of December. I reached the 50 k sometime maybe last April. How come the statement tells me I achieved this last week and goes on to say I have achieved 152, 101 since then? When is the rollover date? Since 31st dec to 5th Jan I think I earned about 10k tier miles, instead of reseting my total just went up from 142k to the 152 k above?

Anyone else noticing anything funny?

Same thing here- and I think al lof the GOLDs were not reset at December 31,

I am suprised it is taking this long for them to do anything about it.

tinkybelle Jan 13, 2010 12:03 am

mine is right at 61k but did not reset on 31 dec.

nadeem Jan 13, 2010 2:56 pm

Mine didnt either.....It says 31 Jan when I look on my account......

I achieved Silver on 25 December 2009, and my miles have not reset.

Since the new Skywards website came online my review date has changed twice, so who knows what's correct.

There was supposed to be a 13 month rolling review period, so I am half expecting my miles to reset at the end of January, however the website is currently telling me my review period ends on 31 August 2010, which isn't related to the date I achieved Silver in any way I can think of. Quite strange.

Well, i have some explaination for rollover and date of achievement, will try to explain through example in hope to make it easier, and for me to also wrap my head around it..

Calculations willnow require excel sheet.. hehe, the example is for silver tier

For example:

2009
Jan: 10,000 miles
Feb: none
Mar: none
Apr: 5,000
May: 7,000
Jun: 6,000 (achieve silver) total now 28,000
Jul:none
Aug-Dec: none

So, in feb 2010, (jan 31st is when the the jan 2009 tier miles will reset)
So one would need 22,000 tier miles by the end of jan 2010 to achieve Gold

in feb 2010, your tier miles will be 18,000. so (based on example) i will need 32,000 miles by the end of Apr to achieve Gold. why Apr, not feb or mar, because no miles will reset in Feb or mar 2010, cos in no miles gained in feb and mar of 2009.

I hope it makes sense..

Still confused!

I was already Silver going into 2009 calendar year, I have achieved 16,091 teir points during Jan 2009 and June 2009 (although my account only says 15,931) When I use the new tier calculator it says my rolling period is 1st Jan 2009 to 31st Jan 2010. To achieve gold I would need 34,069 TP`s which I understand, However to retain Silver I need 9,069 TP`s by my review date which it doesn`t say is when (I would assume Jan 31st also)

But, here`s the thing, it states my current status is Silver, I apparently achieved this on 1st March 2010 and I have 15,931 TP`s since my date of achievement, not sure how I have managed this as by my last calculation we are still in Jan 2010 or have I missed something?

The expiry date on my current card is March 2010, does that mean I have until march to retain silver?

I'm kind of new here, but it seems when I signed up it said something about your level expiring in the month following your birthday. If you didn't provide a birthdate then it would be January.

Those are the regular miles not your tier miles

when did you achieve your silver status in 2008, or if longer, 2007?

I`m not sure on that, I was thinking it may have been in the March, but if the Gold tier target was in the rolling period from 1st Jan to 31st Jan, I would have assumed I would have to earn tier points in the same period to retain silver? that`s the bit that`s confusing. (and obviously qualifying for Silver 2 months in the future)

Just noticed as well If I click onto "latest transactions" it shows a review date of 9th Jan 2010? which doesn`t seem to correspond with anything (It doesn`t show this on the Activity Details though)

When you sign into your Skywards account at the bottom of the "Your tier status" box there is a link "Your tier status page >" click on there and it tells you how many tier points you need to retain your status level or achieve the next status level, trouble is the info on mine seems to be conflicting.

From the FAQs on the Skywards website:

Skywards allows you to accumulate tier miles across any 13 calendar months to move to a higher tier. Based on your travel history, a consecutive 13 calendar month period highlights the date by which you need to achieve any additional tier miles. Beyond this date your rolling tier period and any additional tier miles will refresh, again based on your travel history.

It seems that tier miles will not necessarily reset on 31 January, they're basing your review date on your travel history. Just doesn't seem like you get any say in this.

Why oh why couldn't they just have left skywards as it was pre 2010. It was so much simpler. Now they have complicated it beyond belief.
