Why oh why couldn't they just have left skywards as it was pre 2010. It was so much simpler. Now they have complicated it beyond belief.
I am happy as instead of my miles resetting on 31 December as expected, I now have until 31 August to make Gold, which I will, as I've a big trip to Europe coming up in March.^ But yes, it does give you a headache trying to figure it all out. |
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Can`t believe this now. I decided to E-mail Skywards and ask a simple question to sort this once and for all "My account says I need 9,069 tier miles by my review date, can you please confirm my review date as I can`t seem to find it anywhere?" So I don`t get a reply from them, however when I logged into my Skywards account this morning I read......
"You require 9,069 additional tier miles by 31 Jan 2056 to renew silver" And I thought my Alfa Romeo had Gremlins! I think some of them have escaped and jumped into EK`s computer lol!:p |
What a pity that I have only till the end of this month for 16 odd thousand miles to make Gold.

The information on your personal page is fully correct. Those members being non-gold, were not expected to be reset. In fact, for you the previously explained "sliding window" counter comes into play. However, after you once receive Gold, you will be reset to zero and become a "static window" of 12 month for requalification.
Obviously, this mechanism has not yet been correctly implemented in their software, since gold tiers should have experienced that on Dec 31, 2009. |

Only the tier miles achieved in jan 2009 will be reset to zero.. so if you didnt fly in jan 2009... then you still have more time.

I spoke to someone at Skuwards this morning and maybe this is good news...
If I understood correctly (which I think I did- but not saying this is what will happen as it was never explained this way before) Tier Miles will NEVER be reset to ZERO - each month your tier miles will decrease by the amount of tier miles from the same month a year previously... meaning this February 1, a golds Tier miles will go down by what they accrued in Janaury 2009. The tier miles continue tol go up with the amount of mile accrued in the current month. So as long as the previous 12 months is above 50K then a new rolling expiry will start, and I assume the month where it goes below 50K you will have the one year form then to get it back up to the 50K. Make sense ? ..... but in a strange way it does-- |

The part about only miles earned in the same month a year ago expiring at the end of each month is fine - the rolling thing wouldn't work if they went about resetting tier miles to zero.
However, I do not believe a new rolling period will start every month you accrue 50k. Once you hit 50k, they won't review your account for 12 months. 12 months later, if you have 50k, you re-qualify for Gold. |
Lot of confusion
There is a lot of confusion about this issue. I even think that within Skywards the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. For sure, the current sliding window technique contradicts their own previous statements. That's a fact!
Finally: On Monday (Feb 1), we will at least know, if the sliding window calculator works properly ;-) |

Same here - take screenshots to prepare for a lengthy battle with Skywards customer support.

13 month expiry
And indeed, tier miles from Jan 2009 have now expired. My rolling tier period has also shifted forward by a month.
|
Nothing has changed on mine, I have the congrats for retaining gold but it expires on 28 feb 2010. Anyone seen my missing year? I think they gave it to one of you up there.
