value of ly
if i am looking for a business class award us-tlv using ly miles, what would be an equivalent value in traditional airline miles? most programs value that route between 90k af to 115k ua to 120k lh to 135k ba/aa.
thanks.
is it difficult to find trades for ly miles.
thanx.

My 2 agorot
Well, I fly LY mostly TLV->europe (zone C)->TLV on V class.
That's a 50 points accrual each way, or 100 pts for rt. If I would fly direct with any airlines, it would be 2000-4000 miles (my classes usually give me 50% of flown miles), but with indirect flights, and FTL bonus, let's agree on 4500 miles (when paying roughly the same).
That's 3000 points for a flight ex-NYC (or 4000 ex-LAX), i.e., 30 r/t to get a free C ticket NYC->TLV->NYC (or 40 for LAX->TLV->LAX). With LH I would need 120Kmiles which are 27 r/t to europe both from NYC and LAX.
So for C redemption, LH is better for me (but if you usually fly C or F, you may have different accrual rates).
Do note that for Y redemption to zone C, in ElAl you need 9 r/ts on V class, and ~7 in LH (but at the same time, if you don't enjoy the FTL bonus, you may need more, especially in the case of direct flights).

I typically redeem 1400 LY points for Y TLV-EWR tickets. AA was charging around 70K miles for that same ticket until this summer. I'm not 100% sure what they are charging for a similar ticket now. From what I can tell C TLV-JFK would be 135K AA miles.
To compare to hotel nights we may try to use SPGFlights as a gauge, you would be charged 295K SPG points for the C LY flight JFK-TLV. If I then look at http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...omparison.html to see what I could get for the 295K points, I see that I could get as an example 15 nights at the W in NYC as a Cat 6 or 10 nights at the St. Regis NYC as a Cat 7 or 42 nights at the Sheraton Moriah Tel Aviv as a Cat 3.
