They are buying a used 747-400 from Singapore. Good news, though I wish it would be a 747-800 (ADV), but you take what you can get.

Only questions is will they standardize it into the LY fleet, with the same seating as the other 744's (and will it get the new F and C seats that the existing 744's are getting) and entertainment system or will they keep it "as-is" from Singapore, which, in the case of 4X-ELS which they had till last year, had a crappy video system (even crappier than standard LY) and a cramped Y and even C class.

Considering its going to take another year to get the aircraft, surely they would fit it with the new seats?
Do they not have a time frame to re-fit all the 777's and 744's, with the new seats?

You do realize this aircraft will be 14 years old by the time it is delivered to LY!
Hardly a spring chicken!
But then considering they flew the 742's for over 30 years...

The current 744's (4X-ELA thru ELD) are also 14-15 years old.

Yeah this a/c might be older than the current 744.

as opposed to the 744 they had last year, this one is purchased. I am sure they will install LY seats. I just hope they install new AVOD system (fatchance).

They will probaly all be converted to freighters (all 5 744) in 15 years.

Probably more like 20...
They will keep at least one to fly the LHR route untill it's about 35 years old

I really can't understand why they don't dedicate a 777 to LHR. Its such a potentially lucrative route.

because they need the size of a 744.

There's nothing wrong with a 744, and there probably won't be any problem with it in 10 years IFF they maintain it properly and keep the interior in good condition with regular updates.

Apparently the 744 is one from 1994 - it will be 14 years old by the time it gets to LY.
As long as they refurbish with new interior and new AVOD i have no complaints.
I hope its interim til they get 748i in 7 years
