LY drops options for 787
Themarker.com had an article today that LY has decided to drop the options it has purchased for 7-10 787s from Boeing. The decision was made before the next payment date for the options at Oct 31st. LY will get back big part of the money it already paid Boeing but will not be able to get these planes before 2014 if they suddently decide to buy them.
There goes the LY 2010 plan ...

I hope this is a bluff in which the Borowich brothers are trying to send a strong signal to the unions that they need to realize the company is no longer gov't owned and that its also a signal to the gov't regarding "open skies" (they I disagree with LY's position on that issue).
If its not a bluff, LY is going to start losing A LOT of business in the coming years. Those 744's are already getting old.

Way to go ElAl...
They must be MAD!!!!!!!!!
From reading the article it does indeed seem like they are completely backing out of the 2010 plan.
They seem to be terrified of the competition, and therefore dont want to spend any money, instead of making sure they are better or at least as good as the others
I would love to know what their plans are now. No new planes? So they are going to fly the 757/767 fleet for 30 years like they did with the 742's?
Shame the government sold the company, and it is even a greater shame who it was sold to.

this is the dumbest move yet.
who needs brand new (relatively inexpensive) 787s when you already have a very insufficient fleet composed of how many old rustbuckets? Why get planes that are significantly more fuel efficient when fuel is so inexpensive?
stupid stupid stupid.

SAD SAD SAD
In Ynet they are reporting that the decision was made because the company is reevaluating the a/c it plans to use in the future.
