Top seats flying to Israel: (my opinion)
From North America
From Europe
No experience or knowledge to speak of regarding AF, Alitalia, KLM... |
Thanks to everyone for your great responses! You have given me a lot of food for thought and things to look into as I plan my trip. All of my travel takes me to Europe or to Japan, so I am going off of the beaten path here and I do appreciate the help.

surprised no one mentioned the "safety" being better on elal, not that i buy it for certain, but thats what they say. on a side note, that would be my pick because of the nonstop flights and possibly better food.

EL AL is definitely the most secure airline. I feel more secure, especially after knowing more about what goes into EL AL security, than on any other airline. Safety wise, they seem to be pretty good, just looking at their record. The non-stop is a benefit to one but a detriment to another who may not like such a long flight. (Though if the other option is LH, DEN-FRA isn't really better.) |
I never have had El Al's business class kosher food but the food that Lufthansa serve definitely makes it a tough choice.
Since it sounds like your paying cash I'd go with El Al. |
If you can find a way to LH in F than LH for sure. Just remember for your return home if you fly Lufthansa you must check in downstairs at the arrival baggage claim area. I thought it was the a cruel joke the first time.
I agree with previous poster if you can fly El Al with all the black hats it is well worth it. |

A few points: 1. I actually think AC Excutive First is better than LY First (hard product) 2. From Europe, technicaly LX don't fly First to TLV but as they do have a First cabin used as C on their TLV flights I guess it's ok to includen them. However, it's the old F (for now) and so I would rate BA First above it. 3. No way are LH's first seat (old one which is used to TLV) and LY' First better than BA CW which has a far better seat/bed. LY first (again, hard product) is so unimpressive and behind the competition I would never actually pay to fly it. |

To the OP - loyalty programmes aside, I would choose BA CW if you're happy to make a stop in the UK en-route and US Airways Envoy from PHL if wanting to fly direct. If you truly want the Israeli experience LY is the way to go. |

With the risk of sounding like I'm disagreeing with a lot of your opinions in this thread... ;) I shall have to disagree once again with some of the above.
A few points: 1. I actually think AC Excutive First is better than LY First (hard product) I personally prefer LY First to AC Executive First, because, especially considering the soft product. The only benefit of AC is unrestricted aisle access for everyone. 2. From Europe, technicaly LX don't fly First to TLV but as they do have a First cabin used as C on their TLV flights I guess it's ok to includen them. However, it's the old F (for now) and so I would rate BA First above it. The last time I flew LX, (right after Pesach,) they had the new F. Maybe it was an operational change. 3. No way are LH's first seat (old one which is used to TLV) and LY' First better than BA CW which has a far better seat/bed. Again, I saw the new F for LH, not the old one. Regarding LY F and BW CW, I like LY more because I find it to be a wider seat. LY first (again, hard product) is so unimpressive and behind the competition I would never actually pay to fly it. LY F is a great business class Way to quote my whole post! ;) |
I would like to respond to your various points but you've made it impossible to quote your post by replying that way...

A simple Ctrl C + Ctrl V does the trick ;)

You know, this really factors into my thinking quite a bit! This is my first time in Israel and I am very excited. So the thought of flying El Al seemed like the "whole package" to me.
