Weird "present" from LY

Hi all,
Today I got a book from LY called "The Case for Israel" "ישראל כתב הגנה" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Case_for_Israel)
Now, regardless of my political views I do not understand why LY sends such a "political" statement as an official LY gift. I much rather they spend the money on what they are supposed to do - Provide a better product to LY passengers.
Just my opinion
Best

I liked this present

Did you read the book? It defends the right of Israel to exist. I wouldn't call it political unless you doubt this basic right.

Who got this gift?
And why? chanukka? tu bishvat?

I am as Israeli as you can get :)
I just do not like LY pushing this kind of material to me.
A book on LY or airplanes will be nice.

So what could LY send as a present for Tu Bishvat? A couple of cans of Miranda or Nectar?

:td:

I suggest flying Lufthansa from now on. I'm sure they will give you
a nice book on airplanes.

I really don't understand the objection here. The Case for Israel is by no means a political statement...unless you consider the State of Israel in existence to be a travesty. But then again, El Al can hardly think along those lines considering they're the flag carrier of the State. Isn't there full name El Al Israel Airlines..
This is a great gift on LY's part as it's a gift about Israel, strengthening the connection between El Al and the State of Israel.

What I am saying is - Please let LY concentrate on providing a better product and not about me learning more about Israel - Believe me I know it very well.

A couple of points:
  • You may know Israel very well; others may not.
  • Had they given you a big on airplanes, as you suggested earlier, someone would've just as easily complained, "stop concentrating on airplanes and start UPGRADING YOURS!" (Maybe not you, but someone else then.)

By handing out a book, they're hardly concentrating on making sure you know Israel at the cost of providing a better product. They simply gave a gift. Just like any other time they give a gift. You didn't want/like/need.. it. Too bad. Hopefully next time, the gift will be more to your liking. IMO, this has ZERO to do with their effort in providing a good premium product.

Whilst I'm not very pleased with LY at the moment, I agree here with joshwex90's sentiment. It's not a big deal and it's not political in the sense that it is not left or right.

Well I also received this now - in the post. Not sure I will read it as I prefer to read original English writings in English.

They sent it in Hebrew?!

I agree about reading in original language (where possible).

I still use the great sunglasses they gave away as gifts as well.

My point is that El Al does make a habit of distributing such gifts.

And as already pointed out, A book on Ireland by Aer Lingus would an appropriate gift.

BTW, is it the first time that LY starts to offer presents?
