Weird "present" from LY

Hi all,
Today I got a book from LY called "The Case for Israel" "ישראל כתב הגנה" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Case_for_Israel)
Now, regardless of my political views I do not understand why LY sends such a "political" statement as an official LY gift. I much rather they spend the money on what they are supposed to do - Provide a better product to LY passengers.
Just my opinion
Best

I liked this present

Did you read the book? It defends the right of Israel to exist. I wouldn't call it political unless you doubt this basic right.

Houminer Jan 9, 2011 4:16 am

Who got this gift?
And why? chanukka? tu bishvat?

I am as Israeli as you can get :)
I just do not like LY pushing this kind of material to me.
A book on LY or airplanes will be nice.

So what could LY send as a present for Tu Bishvat? A couple of cans of Miranda or Nectar?

:td:

I suggest flying Lufthansa from now on. I'm sure they will give you
a nice book on airplanes.

I really don't understand the objection here. The Case for Israel is by no means a political statement...unless you consider the State of Israel in existence to be a travesty. But then again, El Al can hardly think along those lines considering they're the flag carrier of the State. Isn't there full name El Al Israel Airlines..
This is a great gift on LY's part as it's a gift about Israel, strengthening the connection between El Al and the State of Israel.

What I am saying is - Please let LY concentrate on providing a better product and not about me learning more about Israel - Believe me I know it very well.

A couple of points:
  • You may know Israel very well; others may not.
  • Had they given you a big on airplanes, as you suggested earlier, someone would've just as easily complained, "stop concentrating on airplanes and start UPGRADING YOURS!" (Maybe not you, but someone else then.)

By handing out a book, they're hardly concentrating on making sure you know Israel at the cost of providing a better product. They simply gave a gift. Just like any other time they give a gift. You didn't want/like/need.. it. Too bad. Hopefully next time, the gift will be more to your liking. IMO, this has ZERO to do with their effort in providing a good premium product.

Whilst I'm not very pleased with LY at the moment, I agree here with joshwex90's sentiment. It's not a big deal and it's not political in the sense that it is not left or right.

Well I also received this now - in the post. Not sure I will read it as I prefer to read original English writings in English.

They sent it in Hebrew?!

I agree about reading in original language (where possible).

I still use the great sunglasses they gave away as gifts as well.

My point is that El Al does make a habit of distributing such gifts.

And as already pointed out, A book on Ireland by Aer Lingus would an appropriate gift.

BTW, is it the first time that LY starts to offer presents?

Someone missed the point here ysmisc... Stop searching servers, spend a little time reading the book!

This is not a political book, but a book discussing on the real facts that no one can argue with them, The book is about the state of israel which you live at, raise your kids, and pay your taxes.

The book was sent to many AA FFs, from GL to TPLs, The main reason behind sending the book, is to enrich your knowledge with some solid facts vs urban legends, So as a traveler if you find yourself discussing and hearing such urban legends, you can do the least possible and try to explain the facts to the person.

I find myself many times in such positions, From talking to Iranians, Palestinians and even regular Christian people, This book is the right "weapon" i need.

you can always throw the book to the trash or spend a little time reading it, no matter what are your political opinion is, In the worse case it will not renew you anything.

As for books in flights, dont worry, You will get soon ipads on flights with books in hebrew/english and movies.

As you know (ysmisc) i have spent the past 4 months with extra flying,
and not only in EL-AL, So the only thing i can say, is flying to Atlanta with Delta with a premium product which is probably "better" than EL-AL might be nice thing, As my ... felt very comfortable.
But landing to a Snow storm with Delta or with EL-AL, I prefer EL-AL, The took care to all my next flights, luggage and etc..., Delta... Left me to the dogs...
So its not about the plane or the seat, There is much much more beyond this!

+1! Well said! But why was it given to AA FFs?

AA FFs doesnt mean American Airlines if this is what you got...
Beside the GL/TP/TPL member type differences, Each level have an additional difference with is done by tagging the member with AA.
The regular GL and the AA GL (will appear on your ticket only!),
What does AA means? god knows..., What does it give you ?
Better Upgrades, Better Service, And periodic periodic gifts from EL-AL (without any special reason or holiday).

When you are between GL to PL and PL to TPL or if you are a TPL which increase his average comparing to past period.

I suppose he meant when you're a GL close to reaching PL.

Nice gift.

And if you do not want to appreciate it, mail it to me. I would be happy to cover the cost of the mail to Australia.

I will then read the book - reaffirm my love and loyalty to the wonderful Jewish state we call Isreal, and then share the book with Gentiles to educate them as to why isreal exists and why it should.

PM me for my address and payment options

Same thing in BA, if I recall correctly.

You can buy it here for only 16,49 AUD (+ 2,99 AUD shipping).

According to Israel Post, you can send it in the form of a small packet by Air Mail for only 32,00 ILS, and 13,30 ILS if using surface mail.

Who said I do not appreciate it? I did not say I do not agree with the book's content nor did I say I do not like it.
All I said is that I think it is not appropriate to be sent by LY.

I am as pro Israel as it gets (צבר ישראלי) who lives and raise my family in Israel... I just do not like it when people push their opinions in such ways.
