Nominate yours.... |
Too many to name
It's ultimately a personal and subjective choice; there's no single "best" imported beer any more than there's a single agreed-upon-by-everyone "best" food.
Even individually, what's "best" at any one moment is going to change with the situation. Is it summer or winter? Having a beer by itself or with food? What kind of food is on the menu? |
You nominate yours before I nominate mine.
|
Whatever is on tap where I am. I take it the wine biz is a bit slow down there?

Best import beer? depends on type. That's like asking what the best wine is.
As far as best beer in the USA? It is, hands down, Three Floyds Gumball Head. It's my go-to beer for almost any occasion. However, like the above question, it depends on variety. |
I really like Trumer Pils. It is an Austrian Pilsner. They built a brauerei in Berkeley and the stuff sold in the US comes from there. I think it tastes better because it is brewed locally and is fresher by the time I get it.
2nd- Czechvar (Also known as Budvar or Budwiser in other parts of the world.) |
#1 NewCastle #2 Imperial ^^

Why is Newcastle draught available almost everywhere? IMO it's one of the most disgusting beers ever, I don't know anyone who drinks it in the UK either. There are much better brown ales out there too.

I also enjoy Dos Equis amber with a Mexican meal and find Red Stripe pretty refreshing on a hot day. |
Duvel. Widely available so no excuse for any decent bar not to carry it (even if they won't have the right glass shape).

Stella Artois. Known as "wife beater" in the UK.

No one's mentioned Corona, the most popular import, but to old Border Hounds like me, a sort ofa subtle joke on Corona aficionados... First, Corona was one of the two cheapest beers in Northeastern Mexico (along with almost undrinkable Cruz Blanca). The "painted" label was a hint, the cheapest possible approach back when all beer bottles were "refillable". Corona was held in about the same repute as were "generic" beers in the US. There were no lime segments. Lime was reserved for Tecate. Big markets....always available on one of the two big Mexican airlines, and in the "clubs' (brothels) in Border Towns along the Rio Bravo/Grande in the 6 ounce "Coronita" bottles. It's really a decent beer, but hardly the stuff of any "best" list. For Mexican beers, generally pretty high in quality, my two choices remain Bohemia and Negra Modelo (but then I drink Shiner at home) and only draught beers when traveling (and maintain that beers nowhere approach the fresh - just into the keg yesterday - draughts available in the Czech Republic. No bottled beer matches the appeal of a fresh draught (Guinness being the most obvious example). Who remembers the worst beer of all times, the famous Uncle Sam's contract Carling's Black Label "Jungle" brew, stabilized with enough formaldehyde to preserve a corpse? |
