50% is pretty standard. Every once in awhile, the discount is 60% (or $4 for the $25 certificates).

Valid from 05/01/2008 to 10/31/2008

They currently have a 70% off coupon (CRAVE) that's good through 7/31/08.

Cool! I like more savings.^

Restaurant.com is running their first ever 80% off coupon TODAY ONLY (8/8/08) until 11:59pm CST. The code is "FIRST". This makes $25 certificates (normally sold for $10) cost only $2. I just bought about a dozen. One incredible thing about this coupon is that since it's early in the month there's still a relatively good selection available. Normally, the best they do is a 60% or 70% off near the end of the month when all the good restaurants are gone. Enjoy!

The word must be out on this sale. I've been trying off and on all morning. I can't get past the Home page. I've used the coupons before. this is a good deal. :)

Yes, the site is real slow today, but I managed to get a few for Orlando for our trip in January, and a few for local restaurants. Now, let's see if I remember to use them!

Same code as before - FIRST

Valid through Sunday, Aug 10

Just found the actual code GRAND for a 50% off .... expiration unknown ...

Just passing on a deal for my fellow travelers..

goto restaurant.com, type in your zip code. Buy a 10, or 25.00 gift certificate. Enter code "SURPRISE" get 80% off.

10.00 certificate for 60 cents.

Enjoy

I'm getting - The discount code you used has expired. :(

Thanks for the heads up though.

The promotion is still there, but at 70% now. The code is "thanks". If you go to the restaurant.com site, you can sign up to be a member (free), and they will e-mail you all of their promotions.

I have been a member for a few years now, and have saved quite a bit of $$$. Sometimes, the requirement for a particular restaurant is you must spend a minimum of $35 or $40. We "get around this" by bringing our daughter with us - and having no problem with the minimum.

DD

Don't know if this is the right board, but I just stumbled on this via a promotion that Borders Books has been running:

http://www.restaurant.com/index.asp?pgn=home

There is a promotion through midnight* tonight for purchasing gift certificates.

The promotion is to get a $10 gift certificate for $1.80 (normal cost, $4), a $25 gift certificate for $4 (normally $10), $50 gift cert for $8, $75 cert for $12. (The promo discount is 60% off the normal price of a gift certificate.) There are minimum dine spends: For a face value $10 cert, it's $20. For a face value $25 one, it's $35. For a $50 one, it's $100. For a $75 one, it's $150.

How: You register with the program for free, then search for a restaurant you like in the program, then choose what certificate(s) you want. When you proceed to buy, enter the code MOTHER.

Even without the promotion that ends today, it's a good deal.
Sorry to be so late in discovering and posting this.

*When it crossed midnight ET, I changed my computer's timezone.

Has anyone used restaurant.com gift certificates?

Gift certificates, please excuse the spelling error, my bad.

They are $25.00 gift certificates you buy from them for $10.00. Is this cheezy? Do restaurants who accept these certificated or the "entertainment book" coupons give you a bad meal when you use these products?

Do you present these products when you receive the bill or when you order?

I know, you tip on the total amount before the discount.

jakuda Apr 15, 2008 6:45 am

I've never had a problem using the certs as long as I fulfilled any of their requirements stipulated. Google for coupons at restaurant.com. Often there are 40-60% off coupons at restaurant.com which make the certs more attractive.

BLI-Flyer Apr 15, 2008 6:54 am

I've used them often and never had a problem. There's nothing cheezy about them, they're a promotional tool by the restaurants. As mentioned above, keep your eyes out for sales on restaurant.com, you can often pick up $25 certificates for $5 or $6 each. Do a search and make sure there are places you want to eat in the cities you visit.

CosmosHuman Apr 15, 2008 7:00 am

Thank you for your answers. I received a "free" $25.00 coupon and have to pick a place, saving for LAS.

iflyfish Apr 15, 2008 7:10 am

I use them routinely throughout the year for local restaurants that we like, and always check before traveling to see if I might want to use one in that location. I buy gift certificates when they are having a 50-60% off sale (usually 1-2 times per month), then hold them in my account to order and print the actual restaurant certs just before I need them. Once or twice a year in the past they have had 70% off sales! Check the S.P.A.M. forum for the discount codes, or sign up for restaurant.com emails and they will send them to you.
Only twice have I had a cert and when I went to use it the restaurant was no longer accepting them. A quick call or email to restaurant.com and my account was credited immediately.
I have given the gift certs as gifts frequently and they have always been appreciated. They are great as gifts to a new college grad or anyone who is moving to a new location.

linsj Apr 15, 2008 8:03 am

I've received a couple of free ones with the Entertainment book. Spent a bit of time finding a restaurant in my area where I wanted to eat and not spend a lot of money above the $25 off on two meals. When I found one, it was a good deal: two buffets with pop and tip for less than $10 each. No problem using the cert.

kenwood Apr 15, 2008 8:32 am

I've used them many times without any issues. Make sure you read the fine prints though.

jws026 Apr 15, 2008 11:57 am

i've used them several times and never with a problem. i've also used the entertainment book coupon (try for free at www.entertainment.com/freetrial) and never a problem except once, when a small local Mexican restaurant decided they didn't want to take the coupons anymore.

nordic1 Apr 15, 2008 3:00 pm

We've used them sporadically as well. No problems to report. We offer up the cert at the time we order, in case the staff needs to verify anything. Service has always been the same as w/o using a certificate. They're good for us, because we don't have to start the "where are we going for dinner" discussion that invariably ends up with one or both of us cranky and having cereal. This way, we pull out the file for certificates and look to see what holds appeal to us that day. Good luck!

wharvey Apr 15, 2008 4:30 pm

I have found these to be great... we use them all the time.... and the local restaurants do not even hold us to the only once a month usage.

One of the greatest deals on the internet.... :)

UNITED959 Apr 15, 2008 8:49 pm

A friend of mine is in love with these, but sometimes he forgets to read all the terms and their use is rejected. I just laugh. :D

So just make sure you do your homework. ;)

JonathanIT Apr 15, 2008 10:33 pm

I love Restaurant.com GC's! I've discovered some great restaurants through them, and great deals to boot. One simple rule: don't ever pay the regular price. There are always discount codes to be had (check the S.P.A.M. forum right here on FT for a long running thread). If the code you found is expired... just be patient as another one will pop up soon. The great thing is that the certificates are stored in your account and can be printed and re-printed anytime. Don't worry about misplacing it, just print a new one! A plus for CA residents: they never expire. Otherwise they are good for one year.

Cattle_Car Flyer Apr 17, 2008 9:16 am

Yes, but they are not as good as they use to be

I use to use restaurant.com all the time. I could get a $25 certificate for as little as $3 during sales, but now they require larger groups and $50 table minimums. Usually the eating establishments are not so great.

a lot of the local restaurants i've looked into using restaurant.com on have had similar requirements -- some so restrictive that there's really no use in using the coupon.

I use them at home and when I travel. I also find that they aren't as good as they used to be. Some of my favorite local restaurants sell out quick, then drop from restaurant.com completely. When I travel, will search for places before and purchase if I know I'll have an opportunity to visit the restaurant. Also, I will purchase the cert at my hotel and use their printer to print it out.

I usually find an additional discount for that will get me a $25 cert for $3-4.

I have also had good success at getting certificates refunded (credit in my account) if I wasn't able to use the certificate. Once the restaurant/bar stopped serving dinner early (due to snow storm/low traffic) and restaurant.com refunded. Another time a local restaurant was closed for the week when I was traveling (Gone Fishing on the door) and I got the refund.

Just watch for the minimum purchase and days of usage (some exclude Fri/Sat).

ALadyNCal Apr 22, 2008 4:05 pm

Used them several times & they're great ^ Also wait for the 60% discount codes (as mentioned above). In another thread on FT there has been talk about the T&Cs getting stricter for some restaurants -- so read the fine print (as to the minimum food purchase required and what days of the week they're valid). They are especially great in California because there is NO EXPIRATION DATE :p

nub2travel Jun 29, 2008 7:33 pm

I think these certs are great. We use them often. I must admit we rarely dine out without some kind of discount. I must thank my wife for that.

ANDREWCX Jun 29, 2008 9:30 pm

And of course - don't forget that you can get airline miles, hotel points, or cashback in various programs for your (after coupon) purchases at Restaurant.com. My site has a full listing of current offers.

WonderDude Jun 29, 2008 10:04 pm

Just beware that the fine print always allows the restaurant to refuse the certificate for any reason. That happened to me once, at Drunken Fish in St. Louis, AFTER we got done eating the meal. I followed all the details, and presented the cert at the beginning of our order.

The manager refused the cert at the end of the meal because we had some items that were happy hour specials. He said happy hour was a "promotion," and that the certs could not be used in conjunction with any other promotions. My beef was that he refused them after we finished our meal. I would have liked to know this at the beginning, since we probably wouldn't have ordered quite as much stuff.

Restaurant.com customer service was unable to help us out, other than offering a free $10 certificate (min $30 order). Not satisfying, since I wanted a refund for the cert.

Otherwise, I've probably used a dozen other certs over the last two years without problems.

Sometimes you luck out when the restaurant also participates in rewardsnetwork -- that program is automatic, and the restaurant has no idea you're a member.

Maybe next time I'll order the certs through ebates or the aadvantage shopping portal for some more savings/points.

miss1K Jun 30, 2008 11:03 pm

Another good thing is that when you buy certificates at restaurant.com, they may give you a FREE certificate as well (I just got a FREE $10 certificate, after redeeming a $25 certificate!).

primusux Jul 3, 2008 12:14 pm

I've used them before and can't say they were bad, but in my area most of the restaurants offering them really arent that great. I'd rather spend the money on a good meal even if it costs more. Just my opinion though

HomerJ Jul 3, 2008 2:19 pm

Last 2 the restaurants were both closed ...

...guess i should call ahead :D

MichaelColey Jul 17, 2008 4:44 pm

I've used tons of them. I've had a couple where the companies went out of business or stopped accepting the coupons, and Restaurant.com replaced the certificate with a generic certificate that I was able to use to get a new certificate for a different restaurant.

Make sure to read the restaurant-specific restrictions closely and research the restaurants. Many of their restaurants aren't that great and often the restrictions make it only a slightly good deal (rather than the great deal that it sounds like). There are some real gems to be found, though.

ScubaCat Jul 18, 2008 3:09 am

It can be a good way to try out new places, too. Even if they're bad, if you work the discount well, it won't cost too much for the trial.

pawtim Jul 27, 2008 4:51 pm

I've used these a couple of dozen times, mostly for lunches. ($10 gift certificate for $3...with 70 percent off it's more like $1,)

Just a couple of notes -- if you give them your email address, they constantly send you the discount codes. Each month they reset, so there are usually no or few codes at the start of the month, and then a 50% off one later, then 70% off. I set up a filter to divert these emails into a folder so I don't have to be bothered until I want to buy.

Also, a couple of weeks ago I went to a restaurant that told me they stopped participating in the program in February; however, they said since I had bought it before they stopped participating, they;d still honor it. That seems fair to me. (And that was the first/last time I'm going to that restaurant-- I only went because it mean lunch for two cost about $7.)

MichaelColey Jul 28, 2008 7:45 am

If you ever find a restaurant that won't honor the certificate, contact Restaurant.com and they'll give you credit that you can use toward another certificate. It actually works out nice because even if you bought the unhonored gift certificate with a coupon, you can get the replacement any time of the month. Buying at the beginning of the month has better certificate availability but normally doesn't allow further discounts. They release a set number of certificates for each restaurant each month, and some of the best values and/or most popular locations sell out quickly.

BamaVol Aug 8, 2008 11:49 am

I'm glad this topic came up. I was thinking of swapping MR points for restaurant.com certs. Looked like good value. I did not realize a $25 cert was worth $3.

Having gone to their slow site, I now see that there is exactly 1 establishment within 30 miles of home of office. :td: And not one I'd visit.

hawaiian flyer Aug 10, 2008 10:32 pm

I've used many of these coupons over the past couple of years. Just be sure to read the "fine print" to make sure you are in compliance. They have a good selection of restaurants, and you can always find these coupons for sale.

keep tuned to hotdealsclub.com or fatwallet.com to find 60-80% off discount codes for restaurant.com. what a deal.
Can be combined with idine/dining for miles or opentable.com at a few locations.

peteropny Nov 23, 2008 8:35 pm

Thank you for posting - I bought some :)

jackal Nov 24, 2008 2:20 am

Sounds like a good deal, but watch out for the fine print (from one restaurant; not sure if all are the same):

Limit 1 redemption per party, per month, per restaurant
Limit 1 gift certificate per party, even if the party is seated at different tables and receives different checks
Valid for parties of 2 or more unless otherwise stated
Expires 1 year from date of issue
(Plus other miscellaneous terms)

Here's a special requirement at the one restaurant near me that participates:
Special Instructions: Valid with a minimum of 4 dinner entrees. Excludes alcohol.

So I have to order four entrees at probably $12-$15 each (a total of $48-$60) in order to redeem the $25 gift certificate. That's not a bad deal ($60 worth of food for $35...hope the T&C don't exclude taking stuff home in a doggie bag!), but it's definitely not like you're just getting free money, here.

kipper Nov 25, 2008 1:32 pm

There's also a thread on S.P.A.M. discussing restaurant.com coupon codes. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347721

Perhaps these can be merged?

miss1K Dec 3, 2008 10:53 pm

They have promotions constantly ranging from 50-80% off. Good deals ...

Viks Dec 26, 2008 12:29 pm

Bought Restaurant.com gift cert – they change rules afterwards – can they?

Hi!

Browsed around Restaurant.com (first time user) and found what I thought a good deal, $75 gift cert with $35 minimum food purchase. Bought it a couple of days ago and printed for use in January.

Now I received an e-mail from Restaurant.com saying the cettificate will only be valid with $150 minimum food purchase and if I don't like that they will issue a credit for future use at Restaurant.com.

Can they actually change these terms after a purchase?… Or should I ask them to honor the original terms?

wharvey Dec 29, 2008 11:46 am

Yes, they can.

The best you can expect is to get a credit. It is the restaurant changing the terms... not restaurant.com.

William

bankingconsultant Dec 30, 2008 12:00 pm

I've used restaurant.com in the past, albeit infrequently, but only on places where the minimum spend is something we could easily envision for a single meal and where they don't have the gall to add on an 18% tip for using the certificate.

At any rate, changing the minimum required purchase from $35 to $150 is rather steep, IMO, and would have me starting the charge dispute process with my CC issuer, as I wouldn't necessarily want to carry the credit at restaurant.com.

OP wrote that restaurant.com is offering a refund, so why go to the hassle of the "dispute process?" Is that supposed to make a point? Take the credit offered and be done with it.
