Consolidated "KFC" thread

Drove through Kentucky Fried Chicken (store ID D644009) and ordered an 8 piece chicken feast meal. The voice at the other end says he is not sure they have that many pieces of chicken ready. Running out of chicken right now.
We get to the window. We are lucky. We get the last 8 pieces of chicken. The next customer will have to wait 15 minutes for chicken food at KFC... :D

We drive home and open the package. A cole slaw order is missing. One of us drives back to KFC. Gets the coleslaw and a comp of macaroni and cheese.

Non-NonRev Apr 11, 2009 2:40 pm

I was once at one of those All-in-One outlets (the three most prominent Yum brands - KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut - under one roof). Two charter busses parked outside, the passengers came in, and all of the food was pretty much wiped out shortly thereafter :)

B747-437B Apr 11, 2009 2:44 pm

There used to be a KFC in India that was 100% vegetarian. They only served assorted side orders and drinks.

i would think you be lucky if their no chicken and you go eat something less than fat soaked dough and under 10k calories.

i cannot believe you admit to eating that garbage.

Sometimes one wants to feed the whole family for under $10. Sometimes someone has a craving for the crap. It actually sounds pretty good about now. I don't think I've had it for a couple of years at least (and recently I went to Church's for the first time in several years and was sorry I did).

chicken in DC is under $2 a pound. sweet potatoes(yams) are $0.69. 1 part chicken, 4 parts yams. we make dog food out of it.

we feed our dogs better food than you are feeding your WHOLE FAMILY. THE DOGS don't get cancers any more.

I do have to reply ... I eat fast food in a big chain about 3 or 4 times a year, and eat in even 'higher quality' chain restaurants about 2 or 3 times a year. I buy 90% of my food at a local fish store, a local poultry store, a local produce store, a local bread bakery, a local cheese store and Trader Joe's. I rarely buy anything with HFCS or any partially-hydrogenated oil.

Occasionally, a piece of so-bad-for-you-it-could-kill-you fast food is good. Fortunately, I usually get a headache, lethargy, and cramps, so I rarely do it.

Back to the OP, the guy who had to wait actually got the good, hot and fresh chicken, worth the post-eating suffering!

Taiwaned Apr 12, 2009 1:12 pm

Went to a KFC in Taiwan at dinner time. 6-6:30 pm

They said sorry out of chicken. Please go to the next nearest KFC which was 10 minutes away.

I initially thought there was a language barrier because I couldn't really speak any chinese but then they pointed to the racks and said NO CHICKEN. pointed to the fridge and said NO CHICKEN.

Gave me free fries...... said come back tomorrrow.

It was a wierd experience.

neuron Apr 12, 2009 2:58 pm

Worked in a fried chicken joint when I was 15. We had a huge influx of patrons and by the middle of the afternoon, we ended up running out of chicken and corn on the cob. The people were more upset that we had no more corn than they were about the lack of chicken! Had to close the restaurant down for the day due to the food shortage.

Given the quality of the raising of chickens and sweet 'taters these days, I'm not sure the current diet is doing much to protect your dogs from cancer, and messing with deboning (unless you're buying boneless for less than $2 a pound) is a lot of work. Come to think of it, with only those two components, your hounds are short of some key nutrients. While I wouldn;t feed my Jack Russells KFC, I be just as likely to reject the diet you're proposing.

On the other hand, I'll sure cook those two foods for myself, having recently expanded my sweet potator culinary spectrum to include an awfully tasty biscuit...I guess I'll name it "Ham & Yam" biscuits (although most sweet potatoes we see in US stores are not "yams" at all.

get off your high horse, it's a free country.

to the OP: funny story, i was once at Jack in the Box and they ran out of hamburger patties..so even though i had ordered chicken strips, i still got comp'd for my meal from the manager :D

enginero Apr 12, 2009 10:58 pm

Not KFC, but ironic nonetheless. I have had two visits to two seperate Subways in the last year that were out of bread and not just waiting for more to bake, literally out.

I havent eaten at KFC in a while, but do enjoy their fried apple pies. I think they are one of the few places left that fry their pies :)

I guess you got the booby prize?

Why would a KFC run out of chicken?

Because they made a paltry order. :D

Jay71 Apr 13, 2009 4:10 am

I've had KFC run out of "regular" chicken on me twice (two different locations). Could still order hot wings if I wanted chicken.

The whole world is proud of you.

No maybe you can allow other people to eat what they like and give up the moral high ground.

Living in Indonesia for the last 3 years I've encounted a McDonalds with no hamburgers, a Pizza Hut with no Pizza and a Starbucks with no coffee.

I also had some local restaurants with no food at all.

Some KFCs have all-you-can-eat buffets now. I’m calling dibs on that Extra Crispy leg!

The one that was near my old office had a gagandbarfatoriumfest for awhile but eventually removed it.

I dont see any point to your post. The FTer you are responding to will probably live to 85 years but my best guess you dogs wont make it past 15 or whatever. My scrawny cat eats mostly local field mice and lizards and an occasional Costco cat food in the dry season (ie nil field mice).

The last time I went to KFC was when we were out of town for a baseball tournament and my son wanted to go. It was one of the buffet places...and well, it will be a long while before I do that again...but I do love KFC cole slaw :)

Generally speaking, I prefer the fried chicken "meals" from the grocery store if I'm going for greasy and convenient. Its cheaper, and the pieces of chicken are bigger.

BamaVol Apr 13, 2009 4:38 pm

I've had KFC run out of something I ordered. I got comped a bag of fries or something and waited the 10 minutes for more to cook.

A friend was in line at Taco Bell last year at lunchtime and a worker came out and yelled to the cars in line that they were closed. I don't know what they ran out of - hot water?

nomoreiphone Apr 13, 2009 4:38 pm

Generally I find the Fastfood chains taste better in Asian Countries and they have nicer alternatives (rice and Spaghetti dishes in KFC with chix)

I generally order just the breast strips instead of the normal pieces. I also get some serviettes and Press the meat to absorb as much oil as possible before eating it.

An occasion trip to KFC is nice. But I definitely don't recommed doing it too often (It is like drinking I guess)

I like it when I can goto a Gordon Ramsay restaurant one day and KFC the other.:D

There is one Taco Bell in Fairbanks, Alaska that's open 24 hours but shouldn't be. Every single time I went through their drive-thru late at night, they were out of both beans and something else (usually beef, cheese, or onions).

Seriously, beans? How does a Taco Bell run out of beans? Not only is it their most fundamental ingredient, it probably comes in cans and never goes bad, so they should have just filled a stock room with them! And it was literally every time, too, so shouldn't they know to place a slightly larger order the next week?

I got so tired of calling the national customer service line and receiving coupons good for free items (which I couldn't use, since they were always out) that I simply quit complaining...

Too tempting, I would prob just go for the skin on the chicken, so deliciously wrong..............

There's no Costco up there... they have to send the #10 cans of refried beans via the Alaska Railroad :D

I have eaten there once too (not sure why... lots better eateries in FAI... :()

I have been to a KFC buffet before (probably 15 years or so ago... a distant memory...) IIRC- it was an odd experience- and haven't been back to KFC since...

I am afraid you can't feed a family of four for 10 bucks at KFC anymore. I was at a clients facility recently and was invited to their monthly potluck dinner(lunch) I mentioned that I couldnt cook anything and they suggested a bucket of chicken from KFC. A 20 piece bucket was nearly 40 bucks !!!

Other Taco Bell. You're probably thinking about the one near the airport. The one on the other side of town was closer to work/home (on College Road)...but never stocked fundamental Taco Bell ingredients! I should have gone over to the Airport Way one more often...

And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread about KFC... :D

BV Jr#1 used to manage a Taco Bell at night while he was in High School. IIRC, the beans are actually a powder in a bag that is mixed with hot water.

Anyone remember the strawberry shortcakes they used to serve in the tall pudding cups?

no one told u to pig out and order the bucket. I remember I saw an ad last week in the US and they said 9.99 you can feed a family of 4. I think you get like 8 pieces of chix and some sides.

a. Their slaw is fine. The cole standard for me is Friendly's.

b. Yes, but I never tried one. Were they any good? Last dessert I had at KFC was a pudding cup many many years ago.

As a child, they tasted good. If I were an adult back then, I'm sure it would've been bland and not worth getting.

This thread sucks... I have a hankering for fried chicken now. :(

skchin Apr 14, 2009 11:29 am

I have a KFC near my house with wierd pricing for buffalo wings.
10 pcs for 5.99
18 pcs for 9.99
35 pcs for 19.99

I think they come in prepacked frozen packages. It costs more per peice at 35 pcs.

Either they're arithmetic challenged or hoping their customers are. Gatorade's the same way at Wal*Mart. The 2X container works out to be a few cents more than buying two of the smaller bottle.

Hah! That would explain why they have such a smooth, creamy texture (or lack of texture, anyway)... :D

When I was in second grade, I sold candy canes for our class Christmas celebration at ten cents each, two for a quarter. You wouldn't believe how many people took the latter option!

I'd like to say I was an early marketing genius, but alas...

Perhaps they bought the two-pack simply out of pity for me! :D

That offsets the food costs of people that make multiple trips to the buffet, LOL!
