I probably use my toaster oven everyday. No reason to have a regular toaster. I buy whatever is on sale at Target and they always last at least 5 years. Right now I have an Oster that was probably around $70...I have had it for years. I don't see an advantage in paying top dollar. I don't have a big space so whatever fits works for me.
|
If space is a concern, consider a toaster oven that flips away for storage.

Get one with that has convection baking, you basically get an air fryer for free
|
We have the Brevelle, which is one of the larger toaster ovens. I'm waiting for it to conk out so I can replace it with the one that includes an air fryer setting.

We bought a Black & Decker toaster oven at Kohl's for $5 about 5 years ago (using my MIL's Kohls Cash...I think it listed for $35) and it works just fine.
Pro tip: put a sheet of foil on the bottom of it to catch crumbs and spills. |
Delonghi from Costco. Bought in 2009. I’ll get my next one at Costco.

I have a Cuisinart and it's a great appliance. I use it every day for bread pieces that don't fit in my Dualit toaster. It's also good for baking pizza pies and has a convection feature.

Pro tip: put a sheet of foil on the bottom of it to catch crumbs and spills. A few years ago, my SIL gave my wife a toaster oven that has an air fryer setting. It looks exactly like the toaster oven we already had, but I decided to replace the old one on the counter and stored it in our garage. She started using the air fryer feature when toasting and found that it gave a better and faster "toast" than our regular 2 slice toaster. I have used it to air fry Totinos frozen pizzas and it comes out more crispier and faster than the regular oven. |
“Air fryer” is just a gimmick. The convection setting cooks pizzas unevenly and you have to manually turn them during cooking.
|
I have the Cuisinart TOA-60. It is large but I use it probably 4-5/week. It’s a lot quicker than turning the oven and and waiting for it to preheat when I’m making small things. I really didn’t think I’d use it as much as I do.
|
Unless you're getting a tiny inexpensive toaster oven, go for one that also serves as a convection oven (unless you already have a convection oven).

Just like toasters, there should be a pan that catches these "droppings" that slides out to be clean. Your tip will make it easier to clean, but will absorb some of the heat put out by the heating element and will cause cooking times to be longer.

I am not sure what I would do with aan air fryer, or even a convection oven. My cooking is not all that complex.

That's the beauty of the Brevelle. It's a real toaster over with regular oven, and has bake, broil, bagel, and toast. But it is on the expensive side, even for the small one, but it really works well as an oven for small portions.

We have the small one and absolutely love it. It's just the right size to reheat leftovers for two of us.

I hate my full size non-convection wall oven, takes forever to preheated and in the summer releases a ton of heat into my kitchen |

Even if you have a full size oven with convection baking, I would still get convection toaster oven. It is not only more energy efficient but it preheats faster. I can fit a half serving tray in mine and do everything except a turkey or multiple cakes

I would say there is something wrong with your wall oven or its ventilation. Mine don't leak any heat. All surfaces are cool to the touch as well.
There is an internal vent on wall ovens. Prior to 2007: Oven is vented through a vent tube under the control panel. After 2007: For single and double wall ovens, the vent is below the door to keep electronics cooler, improve appearance, and provide a better door seal at the top. pv=nrt All ovens are vented one way or another. You would not want to heat up the air in a sealed chamber because of thermal expansion. It would explode due to the heat expanding because it has no way to vent. A vent is also needed to vent fumes and by products that burn off during the self cleaning process. that heat created in the baking process is mostly wasted , small fraction goes into the food. |
I have the Cuisinart with convection. I believe I bought it refurbished for maybe 2/3 the price of a new model, and it is definitely one of the most-used appliances in my kitchen. I love having a toaster oven, even though a straight-up toaster makes better actual toast. This one is essentially a small oven, which for a two-person household is often plenty. It gets up to temperature WAY faster than my actual oven, and the convection feature is very useful for reheating things like fried chicken, pizza, etc. I think I’ve had it for about 10 years already and it is in perfect shape.

I have the Breville Smart Oven Air (BOV900) with the convection fan and the air fry function and love it. It's pricy for a toaster oven but the ability to fit a full size 9"x13" pan or 13" pizza is super helpful for being able to handle whatever we throw at it. We use it for everything except cooking sourdough boules (which require a heavy Dutch oven to steam-bake, and which does not fit inside the toaster oven).

We have a Panasonic Infrared. Have had it for maybe 6 years and it is still going strong. The best thing about it is that it heats instantly, no preheating required. I am impatient so it is prefect. Love it.

The current convection Black & Decker I've got doesn't do well with frizza, though, as the convection dries out the cheese and there's no convection on-off switch. After I move, this one will probably go to Goodwill and be replaced with a nicer one.

I don't suppose anyone here (or your family or friends) has a June Oven. I heard about them a few months ago, signed up for their email list, and have gotten three open window emails so far. They're manufactured in small batches. If I had a thousand dollars laying around and my Breville was slowing down, I think I'd buy one.

I just can’t fathom a $1000 toaster oven because there’s not much tech improvement for an oven. At least a fridge can dispense water and make round cubes. |
Bought a toaster oven for my rental property guest house 10 years ago and it's still going - but that's probably because I have used it only once and thought it was a ridiculous gadget and I don't think the renters have ever used it. I can't see the point. It's useless as a toaster and useless as an oven.

I love toaster oven for thick toast or bagels, which don’t always nicely exit a traditional toaster.
