We ordered lunch to go, and like you I was less than impressed... it wasn't bad, but there was NO wow factor either... it was just plain old fast food.

Now the last time I had Five Guys at the Washington Dulles airport on my way back from Detroit (with only 50 minutes between flights, lol) the burger, even with the squished bun... tasted absolutely delishious. I ordered the bacon burger with shrooms and bbq sauce an dit was great! But it was completely different from my last In-N-Out experience which I'll repeat this November.

So to answer your question... YES! I'm down for a Hoboken or NYC Five Guys DO... but its more for the sake of meeting new people from FT than for the food, heh

Near one of the JetBlue gates in the terminal with the state flags?

Yesterday, I ate at the one that recently opened in this neck of the woods. It was alright. Nothing to write home about (not because they as yet do not exist in SAN) but like others have said I found it a little bland. Not to mention especially for this area, it is oddly expensive.

But will one of you 5 Guys lovers please explain why they have to crush the buns?

How else you gonna package it? In a box?

I tried them out again, while the meat is good their bread is still the largest disappointment, and the fries aren't that great either, always too soggy/oily.

I did like the sauteed mushroom and onion on the burger but not worth the cost.

Last night I made my own at home that was so much better, and I just used Mrs Baird's sesame seed buns, nothing fancy but it was way better!

I put homemade pepper picante and avocado on mine.

What kind of beef did you use and how did you prepare?

+1 I went to the one in MSN and the bun didn't hold up to the meat at all. I think that might explain why most of the people who go there aren't actually from WI but rather from the coast ("Coasties" in UW terms). I'll stick to Culver's for quick service burgers.

Burger is great, and as others have said, bun is <meh>!

The fries are also good, but I really feel guilty eating them as they are so greasy. I try to do 2 things to alleviate this problem, napkins to sop the grease up and I close my eyes!!!!!

Had lunch at the Oak Park store today - the place was packed. I've been to Five Guys before, and this one was no disappointment. Burger was perfect, fries were just right.

I used angus ground sirloin, mixed with some onion and a nice texas salt and pepper spice blend from my local grocer, it is basically kosher salt, pepper, garlic, and a few other minor things. Then I put just a hint of breadcrumbs in it to help them hold together.

I then cooked a few slices of bacon, made a bit of grease, poured it all off in the visible form, and cooked the burgers on this base of thin bacon grease. Good stuff!

great burger--greasy fries

I stopped at the Five Guys in State College PA. Best burger I've had in a long time--mushrooms and barbecue sauce and fixins. Yummy!^

5 Guys - one of the few vestiges of civilization at IAD

Just ate at the one here in AUS. My personal opinion is: burger a little better than In 'n Out, but In 'n Out's fries are much better.

Oh, and you forgot a plus: free peanuts!

I like the idea of the peanuts while I wait, but I prefer salted and all the ones at my Five Guys are unsalted.

I keep hearing about people with severe peanut allergies - guess those people can never visit a Five Guys?

ElmhurstNick Feb 7, 2009 5:20 pm

I must admit that I'm a little concerned at Five Guys' expansion. But I had an excellent rendition from their franchise outside of Albany NY the other day, although I do wish they'd season the meat just a little bit more.

My relatively average peanut allergy typically does not extend to peanut oil in moderation, but I don't get the fries at 5G because the portions are just a bit much, and then the oil is not in moderation any more.
