Was able to introduce some friends to The Last Word as I had packed a bottle of green chartreuse for our two month stay in Las Vegas. With the lemon juice from lemons we had picked fresh off of our AirBnB property in Phoenix, it made for a very tasty cocktail that we all enjoyed. Nice to turn on friends to a new cocktail !!

...Not as good as my father in law used to mix, but not bad at all.

That is a very good way to put it. I always keep a bottle on hand while in N Wisconsin, even though Brandy Old Fashioned are the go-to in Wisconsin. There are times where I just want to grab some ice and a glass and go, rather than mix, especially if company is over.

Slightly sweeter than a regular old fashioned. They make the fig syrup at the bar but I’ve never been there to watch. I suspect figs immersed in simple syrup, but I really don’t know. You taste the fig, but it isn’t strong.

Prickly pear Margarita at the ole ballgame!

Miesque Apr 12, 2026 9:15 am

A Spicy Prickly Pear to kick off a leisurely dinner at Cattlemen’s Steakhouse yesterday- delicious way to spend the time between the FEI World Cup Grand Prix Jumping and Dressage Freestyle sessions. Also last evening I had Texas T Whiskey, both by itself with just a little ice and as part of a Texas T Iced Tea, enjoying both having never tasted (or even aware) of that Whiskey

Tangerine Lemon Drop. I have found a regular lemon drop too sweet. But this was slightly sour and very refreshing.

That has to be one of the most unique both sounding and looking cocktails that I have seen. Also, never heard of butterfly pea flower, let alone what it tasted like. It does look quite exotic

Pineapple Upside Down drink. Pineapple infused light rum, pineapple juice, coconut water and a dark rum floater.

Sweet Willie Apr 26, 2026 5:43 pm

For those who like cucumbers a very easy & tasty cocktail.

Mrs Willie & I enjoyed the Archangel last night during our home cocktail evening.
  • 2 1/4 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce Aperol
  • 2 slices cucumber
Garnish: lemon peel

Instructions call for bruising cucumber, I mashed/muddled the cucumber as we both really enjoy cucumber.

A very easy drink to make

Separately, I have recently discovered that there's a global shortage of Chartreuse! The monks have apparently decided to limit production. Has anyone been able to find it in stores?

Can our European friends start shipping more Green Chartreuse to the US. Asking for a friend that can’t get it in our state and misses our Last Word cocktails.

Of course I meant “their” state and “their” last word since I was asking for a friend 😂

Let us hope that Chartreuse becomes ever easier to find worldwide. 🙏

I had to go to 6 different places to find crushed/ shaved ice but glad I did. Mint Julep might be my new favorite drink.

That's exactly what I did...made mint simple syrup the night before. Minty syrup is delicious. I never understood people paying for simple syrup when it is just water and sugar.

Last night I made a Boulevardier with cask strength bourbon, Cocchi vermouth, Campari, and a dash of orange bitters in lieu of the orange slice.

This was great - maybe the best cocktail I've had in a long time.

I had to look it up too. It didn’t make a big impression. Possibly just a splash used. I am just getting used to this bar. All drinks are mixed at the south end. I will sit there next time. The lady 2 stools to my left ordered a special g&t that I wish I could have discretely photographed. Large cucumber slice garnish.

Metaxa (Greek: Μεταξά) is a line of branded Greek alcoholic drinks, each a flavored amber blend of spirits and Muscat wine, aged in oak barrels. Several Metaxa products have numbered "star" designations indicating, according to different sources, either the product's age, the number of base spirits and wines used in making it, or simply the quality level (itself a reflection of the age). Metaxa's main exported products are 5 Star, 7 Star, 12 Star, and Private Reserve. (Metaxa 3 Star is not exported.) . . . .
