Not hot chocolate per se, but I am a big fan as I don't actually like the thick, sweet beverage discussed here. Dishoom (Upper St Martin's Lane, London) serves chocolate chai. It's hot, not too sweet, and spicy. It's one of my favourite places anyways in terms of location, food, athmosphere, and servers always eager to chat.

I am absolutely shocked but the best hot chocolate I've ever had is now served about a five minute walk from my condo. That's just crazy. http://cacao70.ca/ The Guayaquil 64% (or any other from the "Chocolate collection") menu arrives with a little amount melted in the bottom of brandy glass with an already not bad hot chocolate as a side with the instructions to pour half , swivel it lightly (I hope I got the word right) and then drink it. Liquid heaven. On the other hand, have you seen that price??

Though I've had a decent cup of hot chocolate at City Bakery in Manhattan, February is the time when everyday brings a new gimmicky flavor.

I am glad that this thread got bumped because of all the good hot chocolate (homemade and destination) suggestions it contains. I only wish I'd read this thread before my trip to Paris last June, which I fervently hope will not be my one and only trip to Paris.

I've been enjoying a lot of hot chocolate this winter thanks to a neighbor who gave me a dozen or so boxes of Land O' Lakes flavored hot chocolate mixes when she moved away. I never see such a wide variety of boxes for sale in regular grocery stores, so I wonder where she bought them. Costco? Sams Club?

In warmer weather I drink some white wine and eat a few fruit candies (Dots, JuJuBees, Jelly Bellies) while I read a book and wind down for the night...

... but on cold winter nights, one of these Land O' Lakes hot chocolates, mixed with boiling water, topped up with cream or half and half and a shot of Irish whiskey ...

Not only am I a bit of a wine and coffee snob, I also like good hot chocolate. Here in the UK there is a plethora of choice from Charbonell et Walker all the way down to Cadbury drinking chocolate and Options.

I am currently drinking the Sao Tome brand, bought from Waitrose. Heated milk on the hob, 3 heaped tea spoons of choc and a little sweetener. I probably added too much sweetener but aside from that, it was a bloody decent drink!

A generous shot of Kahlua improves my hot chocolate .

My favorite hot chocolate in recent memory was enjoyed at ki'XOCOLATL in Mérida, México. They offer the modern version, and the pre-columbian version. The latter was unsweetened cacao, to which you could add habanero, achiote, and another type of pepper, but the standard model was delicious.

I was going to post having tried some Mexican hot chocolate this past week. :) I like the spicy after-punch to the mouth!
