What's your (food) weakness?
There are are quite a few foods that I like. There are some that I love. There are a couple I would have trouble passing up even if they were offered to me right after I finished a full meal.
My #1: Beets |
Beets???
Of the top of my head, I'd have to say that:
My #1: crawdads (a.k.a. crawfish) I recall returning to Houston, Texas, several years ago to visit friends and going with them to this soul food/Cajun restaurant. Stuffed myself silly on crawfish etoufee. Since I'd left my friends had gotten to know the owners pretty well. So, no one was particularly surprised when the owners offered us a ~3-lb. tray full of more crawfish (it was near closing time and they weren't going to be able to sell them). Though no one else could bring themselves to eat anymore, one of my friends and I just looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders and dug in! We finished the tray of crawfish. |
Foie gras
|
My moms Apricot Cobbler... :p warm with vanilla ice cream...
|
Lobster Thermidor a la Singapore Airlines. :p ^
|
my #1 : salmon, of any kind.
|
Beets are good!
If they are served with great bread, olives, and skordalia.
I adore greek food! My weakness is rare prime beef and good red wine. |
Proper Russian food, from a summertime okroshka to buttery caviar blinnis.
|
BBQ pork ribs and buffalo wings.
|
Fresh white Italian Truffles in late fall. I'll eat them shaved over pasta, eggs, potatoes, risotto. Truly, this decadent seasonal food is my weakness. Oh, and don't ever tell me that this taste can be replicated in truffle butter or truffle oil.
|
A good quality beef tenderloin is hard to resist for me.

What I can't resist: foie gras, a good gruyere, or freshly baked baguette (all together, and you'd have me on my knees). |
Fresh durian! ^ ^ ^

Carne Adovada served on pappas with a fried egg on top!

one of my favorites freshly baked bread at home with french butter (President is probably the best you can get in the US supermarkets). You could add a piece of dark chocolate on top. I am drooling...... |

1. Anything that combines rich European dark chocolate with fresh raspberries
2. Diced Heirloom tomato with a bit of onion, garlic and salt atop bruchetta 3. Mango salsa 4. Mozzerella di bufala, especially in a tricolore salad of fresh avocado, sliced flavorful tomatoes drizzlied with a big of fig balsamic vinegar or in a panini 5. Berries -- raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries 6. Mango 7. Real Greek yogurt (Trader Joe's has some pretty good approximations), sometimes with a bit of honey but usually just on its own or with some fresh fruit 8. Mom's chocolate chip cookies -- sounds corny, but they are SO good 9. Chocolate-covered cherries 10. Fresh sweet corn on the cob Edited to add: 11. Spinach salad with toasted pecans and sliced strawberries 12. Grappa, grappa, grappa! |

In-N-Out Burgers! ^
|
The the OP, I happen to love beets too! ^
For me, however, my weakness these days is french toast, belgian waffles, pancakes and crepes. I have been low carb dieting for over 4 years, so the rare occasions that I indulge in carbs, it is at a breakfast buffet! :D ^ |
I've decided I need to lose some pounds, so thinking of all the foods I normally can't resist is definitely added torture!
New York pizza...when I moved out of NY when I was 12, I'd literally have pizza for at least 1 of my 3 meals per day when I'd go home to visit. Buffalo-style chicken (whether wings, tenders, etc)...I love a good Buffalo sauce Steak...ahh, who am I to refuse a good slab of beef prepared perfectly to my liking... The rest are just dishes that my mother makes that I dig into any chance I can (on the twice-or-so-a-year occasion that I get her home cooking when I visit)... Lemon chicken piccata!!! Meatloaf, Greek-style fish, chicken & sundried tomatoes and pasta, chicken roll-ups, beef stroganoff, shrimp scampi, stuffed cabbage...the list goes on |
In an earlier post I mentioned my weakness for fresh white Italian Truffles (available in the fall).
I have another weakness: Mallomars Sadly, they too are seasonal-- unavailable from May-September. |
Ben & Jerry's
Nuff Said |
Pineapple, white peaches, and cherries right now :)
|
Admitted chocoholic here.
The one food that makes me weak in the knees is warm homemade chocolate chip cookies. Mmmmmm! |
Pizza
1.NY style Pizza (Pep, Saus, Xtra cheese) with the grease running down my hand and arm.
2. Auth. Philly cheesesteak sandwich. |
Sausage. Link, patty, crumbled. Breakfast, Italian, fine-ground Polish, chorizo, bratwurst, thuringer, Hot dogs, currywurst from a street cart in Vienna, Greek, Lithuanian, BBQ hot link, Old Wisconsin stick, whatever.
|
I think I love you.
|
A nice filet mignon with blue cheese, mixed greens and fries.
|
Far and away, foie gras.
|
Forgot in the earlier post:
1. Pretty much any Thai food, especially Mango + veggies, Tom Yum Kai soup, and pad thai 2. Creme brulee ... so rich, so good! |
Duck (prepared pretty much any way)
Blue Cheese Brioche baguette with procuitto and brie Champagne |
Anything with Nutella. :p

On a trip to Peru once, I let my hosts know that chirimoya was a favorite and I ended up with it for breakfast, lunch and dinner -- plain and cooked in desserts. It was terrific. I once bought some at Dean & DeLuca's in NY and they were a pale imitation of the real thing. I had some in San Miguel de Allende in December and again they were wonderful. So, I conclude you need to buy them as local produce. Fresh figs. Tarte Tatin at a really good French restaurant. |
