We are spoiled in California. It's tough to beat the SF Ferry Building farmers market or the Santa Monica one.

There's a fairly large farmer's market in Scranton PA....every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Almost everything there is grown locally.....great variety of produce, fruit, flowers and homemade foods.

I've merged all of the threads on Farmers Markets into this one.

Farmer's Market

Check Kansas City's City Market (continuously operating since 1857)

They've got 30 full time stores open (produce, seafood, restaurants, etc.) as well as Wed/Sat/Sun, they have anywhere from 130-160 vendors.

Plus the Steamship Arabia Museum is right next door...one of the coolest things I've ever seen. It's a museum involving (basically) a floating pre-Civil War Walmart that sank into the mud, and everything was perfectly preserved. Check http://www.1856.com for more info.

Anyway, KC's City Market it totally worth the trip.

I used to enjoy the Madison Farmer's Market every Saturday, especially in the fall (when the Bucky Wagon would make a visit before every home UW football game), but I haven't lived there in years. Worth an autumn weekend escape to MSN if you're from Chicago.

I've recently discovered the Pasadena Saturday market--a great variety of produce in a small space. Same with the Montrose market on Sunday mornings. One drawback: I didn't realize I couldn't take my dogs in the market area--they'll have to stay home next time.

Turns out the quality of our local farmers market varies with the weather. Yesterday I found an organic farmer with apples, pears, tomatos & fresh figs. The figs are incredible and I'm having a hard time settling on a recipe to use them. Having a harder time not eating them all first. :)

On Saturday, go to Little Italy, but my favorite is in Hillcrest on Sunday next to the DMV.
