I try to get to the HRC in every city I travel to so I can pick up a city specific pin for my brother and his wife. I rarely eat in them, because I am on the go.
I think HRCs are good for their consistency and ease for travelers. One doesn't always have to go to McDonalds and other fast food outlets in case one doesn't feel like ordering blind in a foreign restaurant that particular moment (that can be fun though). And they are always located near the touristy spots for easy access. |
HRC nacho appetizer with chicken. mmmmmmmmm :) :) :)
|
Bump to update my list.
|
I just went to the one in Sacramento, it was alright
|
The HRC in Newport Beach closed earlier this year, if anyone cares.
When I lived in Madrid, I resisted going to the HRC there for almost a year. After I finally caved in, I found the only "real" American food I ever had over there and was back a few times for the nachos and club sandwich when I was really sick of the local cuisine, which is nice for a while but becomes very repetitive. |
I use to buy a pin from each location as a souvenir but have stopped because I keep going back and forth to the same ones.
San Francisco – old location and new location Los Angeles Universal City Las Vegas New York – old location and new location Lake Tahoe Sacramento Kowloon Hong Kong London |
I would guess that the majority of visitors to New York's restaurant actually visited their location on 57th St. They are now located in the heart of Times Square, where the old WWF Restaurant used to be. It appears to be a big step up from the old place including a live music venue, but the location leaves much to be desired. And they don't have the old Caddy hanging off the building anymore. :(
I like Honolulu's surf-mobile above the bar, the open-air feel of Guam, the cool grandure of Moscow, the distinct Italian feel to Rome and the Riverwalk location of San Antonio. One I'm not a fan of - Orlando. That thing is TOO big. PS - If you are looking for New orleans gear, I hear they are wiling to send it to you if you can't visit. Though this is not a permanent thing. |
I'm a former employee (retail) and I'd be more than happy to answer any specific questions. I worked in Niagara Falls (US) and Cleveland.

Here's where I've been. My wife collects the pins, is a member of the Hard Rock Pin Collector club. She has a display from them.

For the first time ever, last month I ate at a Hard Rock. Wife, kids, and I vacationed down in Orlando and decided to take the kids there. My 11 yr. old son thought it would be neat to go and find Green Day paraphenalia on a wall somewhere.
That was quite possibly the loudest meal I've ever had the misfortune of partaking in... Not that I didn't know that going in. I can't even remember what I had... so I guess that tells you what I thought of the food. Nonetheless, for the son, I acted like I was having a grand time. Actually, we did have a good time... just wish the food was better. |
I don't care too much for the food, overpriced and sometimes not very good, but I keep a collection of HRC shot glasses.
Paris Amsterdam Brussels NY CHI Detroit Dallas San Antonio Philly Pittsburgh Boston Montreal Toronto Niagara Falls Baltimore Orlando Myrtle Beach Gatlinburg Nashville Guam USA New Orleans Hollywood San DIego The coolest one is in Myrtle Beach. It is shaped like a huge Egyptian Pyramid. |

I've never been to a Hard Rock Cafe, but I live directly across the street from the one in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
I've been here for four months now and I plan to go there at some point before my two years here are up. I watch people coming and going every night. It would be a shame to live so close but never go there! |

I felt bad my first night in New Orleans going to, of all places, Hard Rock Cafe. I'm hitting a local creole joint tomorrow. :)

Honolulu, Hawaii--coolest item on display: the Cadillac "Woodie" station wagon over the bar.
Manchester, UK--met my boyfriend there in May of 2005. We went back there in October of 2006. :) London, UK--was there in July 2005, HOT weather, when I requested "a glass of water" with my food order, I received a tall glass filled with plenty of ice and cold water. Not always obtainable, not specifically requested, but very much appreciated. Thanks Liam! (he was a great waiter) Sadly, the kitchen caught fire that day AFTER I left. Thankfully no one was injured, but they were closed for awhile. Hollywood, California: coolest item on display: The Chris Thompson band doing a live performance for the ABC Trust. Chris rocks! Washington, DC--coolest item on display: Freddie Mercury's red leather pants. I miss ya Freddie! |

We just happened to be at the new HRC at Narita City Japan the day before it opened. Seems like an odd place to have an HRC but as an afterthought, there sure was a lot of foreigners killing time in the city as they waited for there flight. Probably a very astute move on HRC's part.

And another story, with analysis, from public radio's Marketplace business program:
http://marketplace.publicradio.org/s...200612073.html Especially since the whole chain sold for less than a billion dollar. While that is indeed a lot of money but Peter Morton, the original owner of HRC (before the Rank group) sold ONE Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas for $770 million. The Seminole Tribe definitely got a great deal! :td: |

Ones I've been to:
US (no particular order):
San Francisco (old Van Ness, and new - not nearly as friendly - Pier 39 location) New York City (57th st) Las Vegas Boston Outside the US, in order of visit: Sydney London Paris Edinburgh Pattaya Bangkok Singapore Got T-shirts at all of the international locations except Pattaya; only NYC and Las Vegas for the US ones. I've also got a HRC Tel Aviv T-shirt - never been, but it ended up in mixed up laundry back in college. |
Off the top of my head I can think of:
Orlando Washington DC NYC Minneapolis San Diego Baltimore Boston London Paris Rome Madrid Las Vegas Atlanta Pittsburgh |
