BBQ in NY???? They don't compare and with good reason being North of the Mason-Dixon.
Sonny's for a chain in the South Michelbob's in Southern FL After 35 years of trying different places, my favorite bbq is still found at 2 smallish chains in TN: Buddy's & Calhoun's. |
For the past two years, Lucille's Bad To The Bone BBQ in Delray Beach, FL, has hosted the PBI-FLL Meet and will do so again this December.

For the Mid California Coast...
Central Texas BBQ, Castroville CA.^^^:) |
Is this thread a joke?? Everyone knows that the best barbeque comes from Memphis!

Finally, a chance to offer something to you all. I do know barbecue. I have childhood memories of hogs hanging to be cooked in my backyard.
Without a doubt... Parker's barbecue in Wilson and Greenville, Bill's in Wilson, and Wilbur's in Goldsboro. All in eastern NC. |
Probably already posted, but if not had to be 12bones in Asheville, NC. The best ever! I only wish they sold their dry-rub on line.
www.12bones.com Me, I'm a SF-girl who mostly eats chicken & veg & this place had me devoring ribs. Yikes! Yummy beyond belief! |
Hands down, The Rendezvous in Memphis, TN.
A great chain for ribs is Houston's. Several levels above anything you could ever get at a TGI Friday's, Chili's, etc. |

Forget steak and big $$$s gourmet restaurants. Let's get down to basic, American BBQ and share with us your favourite spot(s) in Kansas City, Memphis and other cities renowned for their ribs and shaved beef. I'm a novice here, and would like to set out to explore some of these spots over the coming months. My experience in this realm is limited to that place in San Diego featured in TOP GUN, a hut off the main drag in Austin, and the recently expanded place across from TOYS ARE US off BROADWAY in NYC. I know what I like in smoke, sauce and meat, but seldom find it. So I am sure there are enough folks out there who have experienced their empitome, and would be willing to share it with others. BTW feel free to also suggest local craft/microbrews to accompany the main dish.
Sam and Dave's BBQ 1 in Marietta, Georgia. Hands down best pork in the southeast and honestly the best brisket you'll find in Georgia (which is not a common thing in GA). Here is a good review on the place: http://www.accessatlanta.com/restaur...05/11bbq1.html Here is a link to their website: http://www.lostmountainbbq.com/BBQ1.html Lost Mountain BBQ is the name of their competitive cooking team. |

Renddezvous is only good for dry rub ribs and that's it. There is so much more to BBQ than ribs!

I also agree about mom and pop over a chain, but sometimes, in some places, you just want some consistency and to know what you're getting yourself into. That's when I go to Houston's. Take NYC for example, there are a couple hot spot BBQ places (Blue Smoke, Wildwood BBQ, Dinosaur BBQ), but for ribs I mostly choose Houston's. You won't find me at the Houston's in Memphis though, at least for BBQ. |
Americans take their BBQ rather seriously ?
I'm seen a few travel and food shows which really give me the impression that in some parts of America, they really take their BBQ rather seriously
is this true ? |
