One vote for MASTROS in Beverly Hills
Though I know there is one in or around Phoenix. Yes, chain, but darn good food, IMHO. Great atmosphere and even better service. The fish, on those off nights where you can't eat steak for like the sixth day in a row, is so good you feel that you're getting two helpings of solid grub.
for those who come to LA and have a wad of cash to spend (think Business ;) ) I will be more than happy to take an FT group (I'd be on my dime, have no fear :p ) |

Still looking forward to my first taste of Argentinian beef (maybe this year) but in the meantime would recommend the cattle country of southwest Colorado and the Hamilton Chop House, an independent a few miles north of Durango:

I kind of feel like it's my mission in life to find out where the best steak in the world is. So far, I can't say that the best steak in the U.S. is found outside of Chicago. I've found the NYC steakhouses enormously overrated.
For my money, I've never found anything to beat the original State Street Morton's in Chicago. It's always just a half-notch above the others. Of course, that said, I'm still waiting for my pilgrimage to Bern's in Tampa. I've always wanted to go there, and I've got this notion in my head that if anyplace can beat the original Morton's, it's Bern's. But we'll just have to see about that. It's a terrific thing, though, that you can get well-aged prime meat all over the country now. Having a really sublime beef experience, though, is still hit-or-miss, I've found. But when you get that tang of the perfectly aged steak ... well, it's all worth it. |

No discussion about steak should exclude Australian Beef, some of the finest free range, grass fed, hormone free beef grown anywhere in the world
Taste wise it is similar to that of Argentina, given comparable climatic conditions. Beef from the southern parts of the country have high British breed content, well suited to high marbling levels.
