Sweet Tomatoes?

Am I alone in really liking Sweet Tomatoes? I enjoy Haute Cuisine as much as anyone but on a hot summer night a great salad and soup just tastes right...

problem is finding them. I think this will not be a problem as the various farmer's markets are popping up now in chicagoland.

I'm a big fan of the grape tomatoes, lots of flavor.

Schaumburg and Glenview (near the Glenview Costco). Check their menu online and go when they have their Butterscotch Praline Pie http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...um/biggrin.gif

In Atlanta, there are no sweet tomatoes anywhere near the city proper. You have to go to the perimeter to get any of their good food. So I never eat there unless I happen to be on the far north side of town, which is rare.

If you live in an area with Sweet Tomatoes restaurants, be sxure to check your Sunday newspaper coupon inserts. They often have coupons good for $1.20 off of lunch and $1.70 off of dinner (good for up to 4 in your party).

We only use San Marzano Tomatos.
...From a small town outside Naples, Italy, come the best tomatoes on earth. Nestled at the base of Mount Vesuvius, the sun-drenched volcanic soil of San Marzano provides the perfect environment for the production of the most sought-after tomatoes in the world. Ask any real Italian restaurant owner....

....The San Marzano Difference
(Science Behind the Tomato)
Round tomatoes have between five and seven locules or seed pockets; plum tomatoes like the san marzano have two. How did that happen?
"The plum shape might have arisen as a mutation," says tomato geneticist Charles Rick of UC Berkeley. "Only one or two genes
differentiate it from the round tomato. It apparently wasn't in any of the original varieties brought into the Mediterranean, but the fact that it is pretty widely spread through the Mayan area [of Mexico and Central America] suggests that it is a very old type of variant.".....

Here we buy them:

Did Souplation change their menu to be more like Sweet Tomatos?

I thought of Souplation to be HIGH carbohydrates http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/frown.gif, but liked the stuff better at Sweet Tomats http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif.

Surprised that they are the same company. Must be a bicoastal thingy.

Mrs. RobotDoctor just went to a Sweet Tomatoes the other day and said she liked it. I am indifferent so we can chalk up 1 1/2 votes for this establishment.

There is a good Sweet Tomatoes in Mesa Arizona and a newer one in the Phoenix Metro area off of I17. There is a Zuppa in Tukwila, WA that is from the same chain that is decent too.

Happy Travels

Good Southern fare; a tomato sandwich. Yum! Take your BEST tomato, salt and pepper, mayo or ranch dressing, good bread, onion and cheese (or not). Delicious!

cfrehner Sep 6, 2003 10:25 pm

Mrs. cfrehner LOVES Sweet Tomatoes-- I will let her drag me along for their little pizza-like things (I can't remember what they're called) and their blueberry muffins with honey butter. Yum!

amanuensis Oct 1, 2003 3:25 pm

Mrs. Amanuensis also really likes Sweet Tomatoes.
