This thread reminds me of the Italian friends I had while being a grad student in the North Eastern US. For them, the whole extent of the cultural abyss we were facing was exemplified by people ordering a "skim iced caramel macciato with extra vanilla" and a donut with sprinkles in all kinds of artificial colors at Dunkin Donuts.
Needless to say, pineapple, jalapenos, or avo on a "pizza" is no different. And this thread on "pizza" with honey is tantamount to the decline of the West. ;) |

Have you had a pizza from the "East"? In Japan, Domino's has pizzas with octopus, mussels and claims.
I have had shellfish like clams and mussels on a pizza before while in the Philippines, but it was from Shakey's and it did not have tomato/marinara sauce on it. It is more like a white pizza. |
I just tried honey on a pizza for the first time. It was ok, but just made it seem more like a dessert pizza.

What else was on your pizza? Either you used a lot of honey rather than just a drizzle or you had dessert toppings. I can't imagine pepperoni or italian sausage and mozzarella tasting like dessert because of a little bit of honey. I highly recommend the honey & pepperoncini mix. |

maybe it was avocado pizza? Do people think that we will find out Jaimito’s pizza toppings???
I don’t have a picture of last nights pizza, so you’re kinda out of luck. I did take a pic of the same pizza, sans honey in July, that the delivery driver was subpar. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...05183676b.jpeg |
maybe tonight I make pizza and add a little honey with the Calabrian chili oil.

Having not heard of it before seeing this thread coming alive again in the last few months, honey on a pizza is definitely spreading as a new local wood fired takeaway that opened up during lockdown here in Dublin has added a Bee Sting to its menu. I haven’t tried yet, but I plan to as their dough and toppings are pretty good and it’s become our go to place (having recently tried their black pudding, pancetta and pepperoni one which was excellent).

Oh man, I wish I'd seen this thread yesterday. I made "pizza" with Essential Baking Co "crust" with fresh mozzarella and a diced red onion. I have some uncured whole pepperoni in the cabinet for next time with a drizzle of honey.
A couple years ago, I specifically went to Connecticut for apizza (New Haven) and steamed burgers (Meriden). How have I never heard of Detroit's pizza?! |
I did the honey mixed with pepperoncini again tonight. It is just really good!

It's close to Chicago style, it is a deep dish. But usually square, with a crispier crust. I think they might use a slightly different crust recipe too.
Pizza Hut debuts a new Detroit-style pizza (msn.com) https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/...6&q=60&o=f&l=f Picture from the story The chain is launching a new Detroit-style pizza, which ditches the traditional round shape for a rectangular crust with cheese to the edges that's popular in the Michigan city. The new offering comes in four options, including the "Detroit Double Pepperoni" which Pizza Hut describes as a "work of pizza art" because it includes 80 pepperoni slices. The other options are the "Double Cheesy," "Meaty Deluxe" and the "Supremo," which has Italian sausage, red onions and green bell peppers. Prices start at $10.99. |
I haven’t ordered from Pizza Hit since the 90’s. The cupped pepperoni is very enticing.

The only type of sweet stuff I've had on pizza, IIRC, has been pineapples... (nothing else comes to mind atm)... so I'd think having some honey on my pizza wouldn't be so bad... but then I know many who hate pineapple on their pizza.
