I'm sick and tired or two things:

1. Ciabatta (sp?) bread with sandwiches. Can't stand it... just give me a sandwich with good, traditional bread.

2. Wraps. The heII with them. This is a craze that I can't wait to die out. I don't care what's in that wrap.... it would be better as a sandwich.

Agree completely on the ciabatta bread for sandwiches. Ditto for bagels. Both are too dense/solid and cause whatever the filling is to splooge out when you take a bite. Can't stand either.

I don't have any problem with wraps though, or burritos.

Can we lose the stupid word "artisan" already??

What exactly is an artisan bread? Am I supposed to be excited about this amazing new bread/sandwich/etc.

A loaf of artisan bread, a couple slices of artisan cheese, some artisan cold cuts. Wait, is that where we're headed? I think so. Sorry dude, I don't see this one coming to a conclusion soon. I bought artisan jelly at the farmer's market a couple weekends ago. Here, I think it means the producer is exempt from health laws. :D

Not a food trend, per se, but mililtant veganism. I've been vegan for 36 years, but most people don't know because I don't preach, don't feel superior and don't care what you eat. Sure, I wish people ate less meat, but I wish they drove smaller cars and watched less television; we all wish.

The craft beer fad - I wish that would pass. I brewed in the 70s and went through the first craft/micro fad and that fallout that followed. The faddishness is brutal. (I don't drink beer mainly 'cuz of the vegan thing...though there are some vegan beers .)

Death to tofu.

Please, for the love of God, will places stop putting peppers in everything? Even if you remove the peppers, the taste permeates, is quite distinctive and awful.

Saw a guy at the supermarket yesterday wearing a t-shirt that said: "Attention vegans: my food poops on your food." Probably an old joke, but I hadn't heard it before and thought it was pretty funny...:D

Vegans sometimes remind pescatarians (fish eaters) that their food lives in its own toilet.

:D That's a good one too -- my FIL used to refuse to drink plain water because "fish [copulate] in it."

You want to go where? Oct 3, 2014 3:02 pm

You missed the other adjective that goes with that - handcrafted. Has anyone ever had a sandwich which wasn't handcrafted? I want to know where I can get the new Rube Goldberg sandwich making machine.

Yuca fries. One place in DC where I've ordered them knew how to make them appetizing. The rest, not so much.

On my last trip to the U.S., particularly around southeast foodie hotspots of Charleston & Asheville, "handcrafted" was taken up a few notches of pretentiousness and had morphed into "curated".... e.g. "Our menu features artisan, handcrafted small plates and cocktails carefully curated by...."

Unless the dishes really were put together in an antique shop or museum, this word has no place on a restaurant menu.

Next thing you know, your server will be replaced by a docent. :D

My mum agrees with you about the wraps. Personally I like wraps but i'm with you on the ciabatta.

Artisan is definitely getting a bit tiresome. Along with 'craft'.
