You beat me to the punch on this one - an all-time favorite. There are two bars. The one downstairs serves Belgian products only. My first time there was after a 3 hour "Brews Cruise" to 3 Asheville area breweries which had been preceded by 2 independent brewery visits. I have come back multiple times despite the way I felt the morning after my first visit. It was here I tried my first unfruited Lambic. I was so amazed at the taste that I went from stool to stool offering every stranger in the bar a sip from my glass.

Bier Station in Kansas City, MO has an awesome rotation of local, craft, and foreign breweries. They always have one wild/sour on tap, and every bartender is a beer afficionado. In addition to the taps, you can either take bottles to go, or pay a small premium to drink them there. Good local sausages and pretzels too. The tap list on the website shows how much is left in the keg too which is pretty awesome for their very limited releases (Bourbon County Stout, etc.)

In addition to the chain places mentioned up thread, any World of Beer location is pretty good.

:D I can neither confirm nor deny that someone in my family may have, after spending all evening at the Creekhouse, first for a beer sampling, then drinking, as their last drink, consumed a bottle of Hair of the Dog Adam, and then decided that the floor in the bathroom looked like a very comfy place to sleep.

BamaVol, if you are visiting Pittsfield and want to head out Worcester way, I will be glad to buy you a draft or two at the Boynton in Worcester. Draft list in pdf form here . Over 55 beers on tap with a good selection of seasonals. Had some folks visiting from Prague and took them here and they had a ball trying all the different local brews from Berkshire to Wachusett to Shipyard. BBC's Steel Rail Pale Ale is my usual, but I have been know to quaff a Guinness or two or a Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale.


Another spot I bring visitors to is Peppercorns in Worcester for the Wormtown microbrewery out back. They have a huge selection, not 50 but they have lots of seasonals and almost one of every kind of beer you can think of. They make a point of including Massachusetts ingredients in every beer.

Hate to come across as a beer snob, but before I visit any place to have a pint I usually check it out via Beermenus or BeerAdvocate. For example, a local favorite is the Bottle Room in Whittier, which also happens to be a place you can earn miles via rewardsnetwork. Not exactly centrally located, but you can't always have everything you want. Sometimes they are slow to update their BeerMenus tap list, so I'll ring them if I need something particular.

Another local (to SoCal) place that I favor is Beechwood BBQ, with two locations in Seal Beach and Long Beach.

There are many equivalents in SoCal, depending on how far you care to go.

Not snobbish, just reality. I would expect a large metropolitan area like LA to have plenty to choose from. In smaller markets, we are fortunate to have one or two and we cherish them. Either way, as a traveler, I like knowing in advance where I will be drinking my beer the first night.

Ashley's in Ann Arbor has an extensive menu with loads of taps, including local craft brews like Bell's, New Holland, Dark Horse, Huma Lupa, non-local craft beers, and a good number of European beers (Chimay, Old Speckled Hen, St Bernardus).

Rosamunde's next door is a great sausage place run by an East German lady. All her sausages are fresh made there from quality ingredients and you can take your sausage to Toronado to eat with a beer.

Beer and Burger Joint - Miami Beach
Quite impressive, lots of hoppy choices for those of us who like Double IPAs. Plus, the burgers are really good.

Tyler's Taproom - Durham, NC
They boast 70 beers on tap and they have lots of local ones too. Food is decent, excellent fried pickles (if you like fried pickles!).

Expensive beers are getting more and more common. Though if you look at the list of "most expensive" it's really ridiculous. No one wants to drink a beer that's 57% ABV. (Ratebeer gives the Schorschbräu Schorschbock 57% a horrible rating, though it's suspect since there are 29 rates for a beer whose entire production run was 36 bottles.)

I know. I don't even eat at mongolian grills, but they have a craft beer bar with 50 craft taps, and over 100 bottles. Most of the bartenders are real beer heads, too.

Hamiltons Tavern - San Diego, CA
Real fun bar, open late, and lots of amazing beers on tap. They are always willing to let you sample anything, and look for feedback so they can guide you well.

O'Briens Pub - San Diego, CA
It can be hard to find parking, but it's worth the effort. Not a ton of beers on tap, but I've never seen more than 3 on there that I've had before. The beer battered fries are really good, and the Crab Hut in the same shopping strip is supposed to be amazing.
