Indonesian Rice Table

I had gorgeous Indonesian food in the Hague recently, at Garoeda Indonesian Restaurant, which I'm told is the most famous Indonesian restaurant in the Hague. Our large group had the rice table and there was way too much food!

See the video for what we ate.

Lovely video, thank you.

I'll have to visit that resto when I next can visit the city.

It has been a long while.

And I have done a 180 on Indonesian food since my earlier posts. There is some really delicious stuff on offer.

My favorite type of dining/food in Indonesia now is "Masakan Padang".

Many types of foods are brought out and placed at the table. Then you only eat what you like and pay for those items.

Delicious food as well...

Street food

Street food is the best. I tried food on the streets and in pricey restaurants. Street food wins and watching how it is made is great. If you are in Jakarta try Kerak telor

I've only had Indonesian food once - at a rijstafel in Amsterdam - but enjoyed it thoroughly. In general, I'm a fan of most Asian cuisines. ^

The best Indonesian food is from Manado or Chinese food. And whatever the maid throws together when we don't feel like cooking is usually pretty damn good. :)

What about Cakalang fufu? That is a Manadoese dish. It's basically grilled skipjack tuna, eh?

Indonesian food gets worse the farther you go from the cities.

Soto Betawi is delicious in Jakarta, the Mie Goerang at the night market in Sanur on Bali is fantastic, satay is good anywhere that the meat hasn't been festering in the sun for too long. Soto Ayam can be good in many places.

The biggest problem I have with food in Indonesia is the rural restaurants where all the food is pre-cooked and left at room temperature all day in what seems to be a jewelry case. Tidak bagus...

That's not typically the food they serve you. That's the menu.
