You know what? Neither do I.
That said they do offer two things in their favor: 1. Cucumbers. I love cucumbers on a sandwich and too many places either don't offer it or charge extra like Potbelly. 2. Delivery. When you work in a job at night like I do, this can be a big boost. However, their bread is awful and you really get stiffed on the meat n' cheese as others have said. Their radio commercials are also obnoxious. |

But yet you went a second time Cblaisd! :)
I understand why you went a 2nd time. Good thing for me this chain doesn't exist in the NY area. As for my Subway sandwich. I do the Jared. I order turkey, L/T, cucumber, peppers, sweet peppers, and onion. I don't put on any of their dressings. I think it comes in at 4 grams of fat. I don't have cheese on the sandwich. I buy the 6". No need to stuff my face with a footlong. I enjoy this with a bag of low fat chips. ^ Regular coke. Have to draw the line somewhere. ;) dh |

Didn't Michael Jackson once write a song about this place? ♫Jimmy John's is not my sandwich ... ♫♫

That makes me wonder if cucumbers available at all Subways or just our local ones.

Put me in the camp that loves Jimmy John's. I love the french bread and the wheat bread.
I also love that I can get delivery of just a sandwich since their delivery minimum is like $4 and they don't charge for delivery. I have erratic conference calls and it's easier sometimes to get delivery than it is to break away to get food. They just updated the website over the weekend and I'm not a fan of the new online ordering portal. I also miss when the turkey/avocado/provolone and the tuna sandwiches also came with sprouts. JJs started out as a college town sub shop specializing in being open after the bars closed. Now that they have franchised outside of college towns they don't seem to keep such long hours, but I guess people in most areas don't want a Gargantuan at 2:30 am. I used to get off work at 2 am in a college town and I was hanging out with one of my friends who worked at a JJs. Everyone who came in between 2 and 3 am ordered a Gargantuan. |
Personally I don't seek out Jimmy John's, but when up for a sandwich and not near any good delis, Jimmy John's is a far cut above Subway, and = with potbelly's in my opinion (Potbellys is the one I don't understand the hype about, decent mid tier sandwich but that's it)
Jimmy John's meat is usually a nice leap up from the pre-sliced food service logs of beaks & cheeks that Subway uses. Speaking of good meats, each Jersey Mike's store I've been to cooks off their own roast beef, yes the same real roast beef you & I buy in a store & cook off (sometimes an eye of round, bottom round, etc). There is NO large chain that I know of that cooks off their own meat at each store. As a result the roast beef at Jersey Mike's is my go to if I'm in a chain only area & don't know of a good local deli. All the other meats at Jersey Mike's are made by the usual suspects of mass deli meat manufacturers. |
All the east coasters will nod in agreement when I say... Wawa. Maybe you can find better sandwiches in the heart of Philly or NYC but when you're out in the burbs or chugging up I-95, Wawa can't be beat.
I'll choose Wawa over Subway/Jimmy Johns/Quiznos/Blimpies/Firehouse.etc any day of the week. |

While standing in the very slow line at the register I read the labels on the Wawa brand products. "Ick" does not begin to cover it. Soy bean oil does not belong in my lemonade. |
I do JJ Thursday almost every week. I dont know why, but i've pretty much set that day to go there, no other days. lol
I always get #9 and #12 for coworker. Oh and to make my sandwich even better, I sprinkle Bacon salt in it. They used to have punch cards for free sandwiches after 10, but now they dont :(. |

To be fair, it's nearly impossible to be worse than Subway. Saying JJ's is better is faint praise indeed.

No way! Are they even in the DC area?

My EX Roommate tried to convince me JJ was good.
No toasted subs, skimps on the meat, and meh bread. Is it so bloody hard to get a "GOOD" Sandwich? I do enjoy Taylor Gourmet, and while Pot Belly shows promise I think they're a bit overhyped for what they offer. |
