I like Kraken for a dark spiced rum.
|
My wife and I are currently in Maui on vacation and discovered Koloa rum
Their dark rum is incredibly tasty! Typically we travel light with only a couple carry-ons, but we're definitely checking a bag with a few bottles for the return flight. |
I'll submit Ron Zacapa Centenario XO Solera Gran Reserva Especial. A couple of years more aging in cognac (French oak) casks than the Centenario 23. Fortunately, a friend who is a rum connoisseur had that, because for the price I am sticking with the 23 year old Centenario (which is cheaper in Mexico than in the US...)

Zaya gets my vote. Finding something on the local liquor store shelf is half the battle. I'm sure there are better sipping rums but it has to be something I can purchase locally.

Just tried 10 Cane and very much enjoyed it. Might have to call that one my current favorite.

I just found this in my local liquor store. From Reunion.

My latest pickup. It seems this Santo Domingo brand is well distributed in Europe.

Museum of Rum and Sugar Cane
I also found this while Googling around. A good reason to visit Santo Domingo. http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/m...and-sugar-cane

Bought a 1 litre bottle of Ron Castillo Gold from the supermercado last week for 50 pesos (US$6 or £3.60 in real money). :D
Comes from the same house in Puerto Rico that produces Bacardi Gold. I like a scoosh in my coffee now that the colder weather is here.....it does the job nicely. ^ |

Zaya Gran Reserva from Trinidad

I'm a fan of Neisson Rhums from Martinique. The white is fantastic in a daiquiri, and the Reserve Speciale is fantastic way to end a nice evening on its own.
Rhum Agricole is slightly different at first (much more grassy to me) than other rums, but its fantastic and complex. All this rum talk is making me thirsty.... :D |
Diplomatico from Venezuela. Along with a nice cigar.

On the heavier side, when I'm outside the US I do like any kind of Havana Club the bar is pouring |
