I know, it does sound wrong, but a superautomatic in that range is indeed cheap. I just can't justify spending $1500 - $2000 for a "proper" one, since our coffee drinking habits hardly merit it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking at the reviews, some very interesting options.

My Syntia is still chugging along.

That seems to be one of the most highly recommended and reliable models out there, based on my research. Found a refurb one in my price range and might take the plunge...

Double  here.

I thought I was splurging spending $100 on a Keurig that delightfully meets my needs.

Just bought my wife a Bonavita for her birthday. I thought $150 was outrageous (its only control is an on/off button), but she's in heaven.

I've had one for a while now. It is not worth $150, though the appropriate temperature is always nice.

Careful when cleaning the carafe - the internal glass lining breaks easily.

Coffee made with a K-Cup is swill.

Tried 3 different machines/models and different coffees, including a self-fill cup and concur... I don't think the water temperature is right.

Mine is perfectly perfect. Before that, the $10 one from Walmart did a fine job :)

IIRC, some recommend running a brew cycle without a K-cup in there to allow the heating element to properly heat, and then once that is complete, brew your cup of coffee.

On the rare occasion that I use a Keurig, I generally don't bother.

The first one I had had no temperature setting; the one I have now does and it works great. Only maintenance I find helpful is to run vinegar through it every six months. If you have soft water, that won't be a problem.

FWIW...

This was $399 on Woot last Friday. It makes drip coffee and true espresso.

I've been using a Nespresso for 2-3 years now, and while I love the convenience, I miss the taste you can only get from freshly ground coffee.

Assuming the refurbished machine holds up, I would assume over time, this will be cheaper than the Nespresso.

I bought a deLonghi proper coffee machine for Christmas. It's very easy to use, the boss loves the latte from it and I love the the espressos. It was only £140 and, of course, it uses regular coffee.

Resurrecting this old thread. In the market for a Delonghi super automatic coffee/espresso machine. Tried a Magnifica S at a friend’s and loved it. Seeing a lot of Magnifica Start machines online. I see two differences: the S has a coffee strength dial and the Start has Americano button. They each do the other in different ways. Anyone have either of these machines? I’m inclined to get the S for $100 more only bc I had a cup from one. But looks like the Start is a newer model and possibly an upgrade. Really hard to get a clear answer after googling.

DeLonghi ECAM 350-55 and I regret it. The manual is unclear, so setup is not easy. And the first cups of coffee were Ugh, such a bad taste ! Even instant coffee is better.
So we go back to the Senseo which is < $100.

Geez. Is that the Dinamica? Pricey. The ones I’m looking at are simpler. Magnifica S and Start. $400-500. The cup I had at friend’s was outstanding. I drank 3x what I usually do bc so damn good.
