2013 DP tonight

Drank nicely, another plane of existence from the Ultramarine we had last week. Very good (92), but not excellent (95+). Apple, some peach and strawberry on it. Not overly carbonated or sweet, well balanced and delicate.

Very good right now, stunning (97+) in a decade. Have to make sure I have enough laid down.

Cheers and happy new year.

She took it from the stock that just came in - it was only disgorged about a month ago. Undrinkable even after a couple hours, though 6 months in bottle would be fair to give them. I hope it comes around and from what we tasted it can’t be blamed on smoke.

Honest opinion on the variability of these, especially based on my last post here.

Following up on this - I reached out to them and they got the same green notes on what they went and sampled. They agreed that it needs a good 6mo in bottle. Also were gracious and credited my account for that bottle.

Not champagne but really nice. A rare midweek drink to celebrate my better half's milestone birthday.

And, how was it? Belated Happy Birthday!

Also, glad to see we're on back on topic (i.e., discussing the real thing). ;)

BTW, I don't think this has been discussed above, but has anyone tried Veuve Clicquot Rich? https://www.premierchampagne.com/pro...quot-rich.html

Thank you. It was nice, definitely benefitted from being drunk out of a Vintage Champagne Glass (Riedel) with more body and nuance. The Veuve Clicquot Rich (and Rich Rose) would likely not be more preferable for my personal palette since its sweeter and I am definitely a Brut vs even Extra Dry (which is what I kinda think that rich line must be like - similar to how Moet has the Nectar vs Imperial designation)

Oh and I totally agree with you on the "Real Thing" front. I genuinely don't understand why people fork over for some of the higher price tag California Sparkling. Some of the French houses have some very respectable CA sparkling which are good substitutes if you don't want to pay for the real thing. But if you are going to pay as much for a California wine as you would for a Bollinger NV or more, I think you are just wasting money unless you just really prefer that California style. Someone who brings Ultramarine is not a real Champagne drinker IMO. (yes, I know that's snobby)

It’s Preakness weekend and so it’ll be Blanc de Blancs to accompany all the crab dishes - today Ruinart Blanc de Blanc

Reminds me of a tasting I went to once. I kiddingly referred to it as Riunite. The host (who may have been a Flyertalker) did not appreciate the humor. :D

LMAO - I have a few friends that I can definitely see making a similar wisecrack to which I would have a similar expression to the host in your scenario. :D I do have to say that while its a lovely Champagne and pairs excellent with crab, the first half glass I had by itself as I was finishing up making the first crab appetizer, I was like like "This is a tad too sweet and light for my taste" (I am so used to heavy bodied, Pinot loaded Brut and even though it was described as a Brut, it tasted far more Extra Dry). Today the Blanc de Blancs is a 2015 Louis Roederer Blanc de Blancs and I am really curious to see how that is since the typical Roederer (which is one of my top fave houses) is very different from a Blanc de Blancs

Been trying to get my hands on a bottle or 2 of Ruinart but it's totally sold out in my area.

An excellent value play for sparkling wine, this crémant went fantastic with our charcuterie board dinner

That's a really beautiful pink.

This Champagne is certainly good enough to also deserve a standalone mention on the Champagne thread
