I frequent a few places in MCO. Don't know of any in HNL yet. Certainly in ORD.

They are POPULAR. Even with me. As a matter of fact, now because of this thread, I'll have to pop into one tomorrow.

Of course they're all over the place in Hawaii, they've been there for years. :)
We only have one Pinkberry though, and it's in HNL past security.

They're also all over the Middle East! Anyone know if it's popular in Europe? As much as I love frozen yogurt, I would definitely prefer gelato or Berthillon ice cream to it. :D

I've been meaning to go to one recently. Been forever. But ever since I went to Italy years back I've been opposed with gelato. Slightly healthier and way better tasting then ice cream.

You'd think, since I've had a place in Oahu for years, that I would have noticed them. I just don't frequent Yogurt places. I found one near Ward Center yesterday. I'm obviously in HNL as I type.

Yummy. I usually do an Acai Bowl at Jamba when I'm in Hawaii. I did sub the Yogurt yesterday.

I must admit... I'm a fan of the self-serve yogurt shop. You are right... it is some-what faddish. I am equally happy and sad that there isn't one within 5 miles of my house :)

1. How many have opened recently within 5 miles of your house?
2. How many do you think will be around this time next year?

For me, it's 4 and 1.

About two years ago, an Orange Leaf opened up to make it five. Just a few months ago, one of the original four closed down--only because the owners had to move out of state to attend to some long-term family matters.

Sadly, it appears the froyo store within biking distance of our house may not survive past this summer.

There is one that is convenient to where I often find myself when I'm craving a late afternoon snack. Usually, it is because I skipped lunch, but it is too close to dinner to warrant eating a real lunch. Unfortunately, they don't open until 4 or 5 PM. :(

We've got one and I like it because there is a better selection of dairy free product than anywhere else. Last year an ice cream shop opened in the same shopping plaza and the yogurt place was forced to drop their price to $5 a bowl (used to be $0.XX/ounce). We definitely have more cupcake places than self serve yogurt although I think the peak is over for both.

Cupcake places? I wish we had cupcake places...

Bleh. I don't like frosting and these look like they're 75% frosting.

Damn this thread. I was luggage shopping last night right next door to the yogurt place. The price went up since last year. It's now $5.50 a cup. You still weigh it so I know I had 13.8 ounces in mine. That's pineapple on top with raspberry below. There are strawberries and raspberry filled mini-Reeses and slivered almonds. The gummy fish were a mistake. They get hard on top of frozen yogurt.

My little slice of Denver has three of them.

One even started making vegan, gluten-free cupcakes (but they were not very good). So we asked if they could start producing vegan, non-gluten-free cupcakes, and they did, and they also named them after my daughter. :)

Sadly, it appears we were the only ones buying them since they had to stop making them due to low sales. :(

That's a shame. I notice that the lactose free products don't stick around the store shelves for long after I discover them. New products of any sort don't seem to be given sufficient time before they are pulled. I guess something has to "go viral".

I suppose you could reverse things and start calling your daughter "cupcake".

The closest we probably have is a gourmet bakery about 30 minutes away. They don't specialize in cupcakes, but their cupcakes are good.

You could make vegan, non-gluten-free cupcakes at home for your daughter. :D

We do. :D Typically make a batch of 24 and freeze them. Thaw and decorate as needed.

But it had been pretty awesome being able to go to a bakery and telling Miss Swede she can buy a cupcake she can eat. Such opportunities (when purchasing bakery goods) are extremely rare for her.
