I'm strictly bacon, sausage, eggs, french toast/pancakes/waffles/crepes type of guy when I eat breakfast at a restaurant. My favorite Sunday brunch is this spot in downtown Jacksonville http://www.rivercitybrew.com/. But I also love Cracker Barrel and the hash browns from McDonalds. ^

I would agree. I enjoy a fine German breakfast, for the same reasons. And Jacobs coffee (especially Kronung) really suits my taste.

Awkwardly, the best hotel breakfast I ever had was at the Novotel Paddington Station in London. I'm not sure why. It's so subjective. I must have been STARVING that morning, and for whatever reason the fresh pastries, selection of torts, fruit, and the rest of their "spread" really was delightful - TO ME AT THE TIME.

How about regional variations of the "All-American"? And would all of those items be included Nationwide? Just curious...

Pacha May 25, 2011 2:22 pm

depending on mood:

Dim Sum - can't really think of a time it doesn't suit.

Bavarian Breakfast - Weisswurst, Weissbier, Brezn (Pretzel) and Sweet Mustard....heaven on a weekend in the beergarden......

Hungover - nothing beats burgers for breakfast ;)

While staying in Dublin last year I made a breakfast choice I hadn't tried in years; Kippers with brown bread (and butter on both!). Absolutely delicious.

Ancien Maestro May 25, 2011 8:21 pm

Once in awhile.. I like left over chinese food for breakfast..

And a swig of coke..

But usually I have nothing for breakfast which is good.. why eat if completely not hungry?

Granlor May 26, 2011 3:19 pm

Second choice after kippers might be this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ast-world.html. But it might be my last breakfast!

Breakfast consists of several cups of tea (not lipton, thanx...), brewed properly (5 minutes) with milk and sugar. Need to be super hot, too.

I should add that if I had easy access to really good cappuccino, three cups of that would do the trick.

At 10-11 I'm ready to eat elevenses, preferably something asian-vegan, but more realistically bread with something. Soup would be good too.

I agree.. brekkie doesn't sound too exciting..

My preference is lunch.. cheap at restaurants.. lots of variety to choose.. you can go light.. you can go extravagant.. doesn't break the bank..

Supper nowadays I go light.. I pick up my son from school.. its' called in and out at a joint.. back home for homework.

I like all kinds of breakfast food, but sometimes, simple is best.

A fresh French croissant (or two) with butter and jam can't be beat, especially if the croissant is the kind that crunches when you bit into it and leaves your plate brown with all the buttery flakes.

Or a still warm cinnamon raison bagel from Fairmount Bagel Bakery in Montreal, slathered with plain cream cheese.

:)

Rainbow Drive-Inn.... Honolulu, HI

Nice big hunk of fried Spam, 2 eggs, and 2 scoops of rice.... $5.25.

I agree with those who don't like to eat right after they've woken up. I won't eat brekkie till at least two hours after I've been up and usually after a work out. My regular breakfast is either 2 hard boiled eggs, a half searving of oatmeal with a bit of cinammon sprinkled on top, or an egg white scramble (add one yolk) with all the veggies I can find in my frig topped with hot sauce, chives and maybe some feta or goat cheese.

For a treat or for when I have company I love to make Paula Deen's baked french toast with the praline topping (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/p...pe2/index.html) served alongside Rachael Ray's chicken sausage patties with green apples (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/r...ipe/index.html). I generally don't like Rachael's recipes but this one is delicious.

But my all time favorite breakfast ever is bagels and lox...but it has to be done right. Or at least my version of right. ;) I start with a perfectly toasted plain bagel and slather on plain cream cheese. Top with a smattering of capers and then a good amount paper thin sliced red onion, followed by the lox, a good squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a slice of beefsteak tomato about 1/2" thick, another squeeze of lemon finished off with the tiniest pinch of sea salt and a good amount of fresh cracked pepper. The order of placing everything is important so you don't have capers and other items running off the bagel. It's something about the creaminess of the cheese, the saltiness of the salmon, the freshness of the tomato, along with the bite of the capers and raw onion that makes this insanely good.

Now I'm hungry!

This is going to sound pretty silly after all the really solid answers on this thread but here it is anyway. I had a craving for my favorite cereal from childhood last weekend and so I stopped by Kroger and got a box of Apple Jacks and a half gallon of 2% Milk. It was absolutely amazing. It tasted of nostalgia and happy childhood memories and so sickeningly sweet. I'm so glad I bought some.

hedur Jun 13, 2011 6:06 pm

Since you have me majorly craving Corn Pops right now, I don't think it's "silly" at all. :)

macdonaldj2 Jun 13, 2011 9:16 pm

I doubt this will ever happen, but if any of you make it to Poughkeepsie New York, there is a beautiful little place called Julies, right near Vassar college, get the hungry harry and tell Julie that Josh sent you there...;)

I am a fan of brunch on the weekends. For me, the quintessential brunch is some sort of eggs benedict. My favorites are eggs florentine and crab cakes benedict. I'm also a fan of miga's and the Don Juan at Juan in a Million in Austin. Pancakes at Kerby Lane in Austin are also a fav, but I never have those for breakfast, and instead always pair it with the queso for dinner (more like have the queso first and move onto the pancakes). I also have to give props to the McGriddles at McDonald's for combining the sweet with the savory.

My favorite Asian breakfast/brunch dishes are: dim sum, 燒餅油條, nasi lamak, and simple rice porridge with side dishes.

Not that early.... At lunch...? Oh yeah.... especially down at Nico's on the Pier......

DJGMaster1 Jun 16, 2011 9:09 pm

Almost anything from JoAnne's cafe in South San Francisco, although if push comes to shove, I'd order a Santa Fe, which is their take on an Omlette with Chorizo, cheddar, tomatoes, sour cream and tomatillo salsa.

ILuvParis Jun 16, 2011 9:24 pm

Ann Sather's cinnamon rolls.

A man after my own heart... love the Rainbow Drive In

Amicus Jun 17, 2011 12:14 am

Generally, I don't eat breakfast, but if in Chicago, I've got to have a bagel from Jaffa Bagels in the Loop.
At home, I might have Julian's waffles, sold at Costco or Whole Foods.

As luck would have it..... it's about 5 blocks from my house.... :D

Travel K Jun 21, 2011 11:36 am

This one is tough...I love biscuits and gravy, but it is a toss up between it and bread/roll with jam and a thin slice of cheese.

A close third is a veggie omelet with cheese and toast. A good omelet is so good!

I'm going to throw in another favorite of mine:

Gumbo, Jambalaya, and BBQ Ribs for breakfast.. :D

Dimsum and Hot Pot rice is among my favorite brekkies in HKG! :D

wsucougarchick05 Jun 23, 2011 12:39 am

When I'm at home: Oatmeal with butter, sugar & vanilla extract on the weekdays. On weekends, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and toast.

When I'm not at home: Depends on where I'm at, but there's always scrambled eggs and bacon involved.

fstop75 Jun 23, 2011 9:52 am

Toast a slice of good sourdough bread then rub it with fresh garlic. Slice some good sharp cheddar, place it on the bread and pop it back into the toaster oven to melt. When the cheese is melted top it with garden fresh tomato slices and salt and pepper.

perfection.

I'm guessing you're oriental.. and so am I..

I will have what you're having please.. mmmm

luxury Jun 24, 2011 1:28 am

When in LAS I always love weekend breakfast at Bouchon -- the chicken and waffles are divine as are the specialty croissants.

Occasionally I will have a Japanese breakfast at home -- poached or Japanese omelette, some broiled salmon, spinach, assorted pickles, umeboshi and some miso soup.

Otherwise, a nice bowl of chicken congee is also pretty darn fantastic!!

Are you sure? I like to have fried durian pastry usually accompanying dimsum of Hakau, Chicken feet, Roasted suckling pig, jellyfish, fried shrimp dumplings and so on.. ;)

Japanese Breakfast, especially in Japan is a favorite of mine! Especially with lots of dashimaki tamago! ^

Chicken Congee with shredded omelette, thousand years old egg, and fried dough (referred to as cakwe sometimes).. That's one of my faves too! :D

Ancien Maestro Jun 25, 2011 1:02 am

General_Flyer..

I like Korean, Mongolian.. and especially Thai..

Thousand year old eggs I'm ok with.. but the Filipino half incubated chick eggs.. theres something to those carcasses :p
