I prefer a baked potato. Typically, I'll just eat it with salt and pepper. Skin too.

Steak with Mashed Potato, love it!

It depends. If the potatoes are 'smashed' as opposed to mashed, it's a baked potato all the way. If mashed potatoes include the skin, forget it. It's a baked potato all the way. I do like the skin on a baked potato but not in the mashed variety.

That loco mono is missing the egg! :)

In addition to the egg, loco moco usually comes with rice too, doesn't it?

I like medium rare steak tartare myself :p

Definitely mashed. I think I've eaten baked potato only 3 times in my whole life.

It's funny at the dinners for Homewood Suites on certain days when the main course is just baked potatoes with cheese and broccoli. Everyone at the hotel avoids it and ends up eating somewhere else. :p

Is that a deliberate oxymoron?

I also find that red potatoes make a very gluey, unpleasant mashed potato.

The small red new potatoes are best used for salads or just boiled enough so that they are tender.

For red potoatos...

Cut them up into cubes and toss into a glass pan.

Coat lightly with olive oil. Add garlic, bacon, rosemary, parmesan cheese, and butter.

Cook at 400 for about 30 minutes or until tender.

:)

I like to parboil quartered red skins before finishing them in the oven as you describe above.

I like potatoes both ways, so I alternate between the two. I eat potatoes a lot more often than steak, though. Potatoes are cheap!

If the steak is"naked" then I prefer a fancy potato preparation. If there is a suace then no potato or fresh fries are fine for me.
I tend to serve mashed with roast and stews

My new potato of choice is sweet. I had a baked sweet potato a while back with prime rib and it was divine! It had a bit of butter on it. I love sweet potatoes and never thought about pairing them with steak. I have done it several times since. It is awesome!

I prefer mashed potatoes lately because I used to get a plain baked potato in the past a lot.

General_Flyer Feb 12, 2011 4:36 pm

Mashed all the way.. easier to eat and not as harsh as baked..
