Fat ....... Chardonnay

Funny name - great wine

Just noticed name got censored. I guess I cant' use that word although it is on the bottle. Think of the large villain in the last Austin Powers movie.

Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc

I'm not a big white wine drinker, but the risotto recipe called for a dry white wine. On the recommendation of my local wine store, I tried Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc. It was really tasty (both in the risotto and, per my dinner guest, straight out of the bottle ;) ) and at $8.99 a really good deal as well!

I've been drinking a very good $6.99 Loire Valley chardonnay from Bernier. Pretty austere, almost Sauvignon Blanc-ish, but a great deal for the price, and it also makes a great kir wine.

2010 Marc Plouzeau Touraine Cépage Sauvignon is a no-brainer to me. Incredible value from the Loire.

If you want some really nice bubbles for that price you can find a quite good Prosecco bottle. In NY the "Mionetto" Prosecco goes for 13$ and I can't think of any better bubbles other than Champagne.

In Italy we drink it both as an aperitif (drink before dinner) or after dinner. It can be good with some light fish dishes too..

The only exception I make is the occasional bottle of something from Chile - another great wine-producing nation.

I enjoy Aussie wines as well, Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz is quite good and the Arenberg Laughing Magpie Shiraz Viognier(only 6%, in 2008) I really enjoyed, both red which is normally where I am most picky.
They are just over $12 at a volume store. Doh I missed white wine in the subject!

Yes, both of those are quite red, but IMHO, that simply makes them better. But more problematic is the fact that they are also in the $16-20 a bottle range, not ~$12.

Glad I bought them on sale then ;)

Thanksgiving white wine

How about a good white with Thanksgiving turkey? Gewürztraminer is always mentioned. Do you have a fave?

Gewurtz is good with Turkey, so is Riesling and some quite good ones can be found in that price range.
