OK, anyone else had an interesting sub-$12 bottle recently? This is a thread on "whites", BTW. :)

How about Muscadet? A great choice for fish/shellfish, but also good with chicken. It's a perfect summer wine, too. I like dry whites, and this fits the bill nicely. Last bottle I enjoyed was $11.99, so it just makes the under $12 category.

2008 Ansgar Clüsserath "Vom Schiefer" Riesling feinherb

If a bit more expensive:

2008 Ansgar Clüsserath Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Auslese

Every year we visit this vineyard and bring some cases of wine with us, the hospitality of the owners is just great!

This summer, my default was to pick up any $10-$15 bottle of Torrontes. Great nose, pretty flexible re: pairings with food. And with a chill on it, great for sitting out on the patio and sipping/chatting.

I would have to say anything from Jacob's Creek/Penfolds/Wolfblass/Lindemans will do for a decently-priced white.

The only Aussie whites that I really like are the Clare Valley Rieslings, most of which come in at a price point a bit higher (but IMO not too much higher) than the $12 specified in this thread.

I make it a habit to always buy Aussie wines, so when I head to the supermarket I only look at that section.

The only exception I make is the occasional bottle of something from Chile - another great wine-producing nation.

Had a yummy wine this last weekend with turkey - Cooper Mountain - Pinot Gris Reserve - 2007. Highly recommend it.

Recently had a great Chilean Sauvignon Blanc at Poison Cup wine shop in Chicago (Lincoln Park). Wish I could get my hands on a few more bottles of the stuff! It was $12 per and EXCELLENT wine imo.

Any New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for me. Brancott, Villa Maria, Babich are all wonderful classic expressions of Sauvignon Blanc, with typical gooseberry and grass flavors.

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc from NZ. Retail is often over $12, but I wait for a sale (I've seen it for $10 or $11) and pick up a case or two.

This and Canyon Road Chardonnay have been white wines that I have kept picking up over and over this past year and probably this year. Thanks to my SO for turning me to Canyon Road ^

Not my favorite white wine, but i really enjoyed "Vermentino frizzante" during my stay in Sardegna.

Pacific Rim Riesling, usually around $10 ^

Meridian Chardonnay ($7-8.99 usually) is pretty good. I took this to a beach picnic a couple of weeks ago and it was met with general approval.

I've yet to consistently find still whites at that sort of price, so rather than chance a cheaper still white, I tend towards Proseccos, Italian sparkling white wine. I like fairly dry bubbles, and it also feels a teensy bit decadant to drink bubbly as an everyday wine!

My favourite:
Friedrich Becker's "Riesling Fass 22" from the Pfalz region, town of Schweigen which is about 7 Euros at the estate.

I totally agree - In the UK these wines are priced a little higher than they are in the USA - so I find them a bargain in most USA supermarkets :D

Wolfblass is one of my 'go-to' white wines and it has never failed.

Most New Zealand or South African Whites in this price point generally don't disappoint either.
