Once i had the chance to drink the infamous Caouim, the Amazon indians mandioc beer, wich happens to be made by chewing and spitting the mandioc into a pot, and waiting for fermentation.

If you can abstract from the "productive process", the taste is good. The texture, although is truly horrible.

At first I thought that eating fried worms with guacamole in Monterrey Mexico was weird, but after reading this thread, I realize I haven't even scratched the surface. Nothing I've ever been offered even comes close to some of the things people have eaten.

You guys are making me hungry!

Not weird, but disgusting: stinky tofu. It smells like rotting rubbish and, in my opinion at least, tastes just as bad.

A dragonfly, well, actually half a dragonfly, the other half was still in my pancake when I discovered it. It was actually a camping trip accident.

Next on the list was pig intestine, though I didn't realize what it was at first. I didn't like it.

For me its surströmming (fermented herring)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstr%C3%B6mming
With all the delicious ways the Swedes have to prepare herring, this one never ceases to amaze me. Once you get over the bloated can and overpowering smell, it actually tastes ok if you can choke it down.

you guys make my silkworm larvae and dog meat seem tame...

jujubean71 Jul 14, 2010 9:46 am

Sweetbreads. And not the kind with yeast in them.

hfly Jul 14, 2010 10:12 am

I've eaten many of the things listed above. Perhaps the vilest thing I have ever eaten was a fried lard dish, I believe you call it Krispy kreme.

Goldiemom Jul 14, 2010 10:53 am

Freshly bar-b-qed whitchetty grubs. They were pretty good.
