It's been awhile since I've contributed and with an upcoming trip to Paris...again thoughts turn towards butter....
btw, I just came across this blog that you might find interesting http://www.butterjournal.com Since last here, I had the opportunity to buy the limited retail offering from Animal Farm (the butter served at Thomas Keller's and other fine restaurants). http://www.animalfarmvt.com/about/ http://www.grubstreet.com/2014/12/an...semongers.html While it was enjoyable, sadly I can't say I was blown away or even liked it better than my standby & still fave Pascal Beillevaire. (except for french toast & then my pick is Bordier's Vanilla Butter :) ) Looking forward to discovering some new ones on this trip and would love any suggestions. |
Reviving a really old thread here to rant. Why does it suddenly seem like all the fancy butters, actually pretty much anything not Us or Canadian that I have come across, insist that if they make salted butter they have to overload it with salt and have it in these huge large salt crystals?

You see one our favourites here in Tarte Easter box

I am super happy with Costco salted butter. I eat it almost daily on toast or bread. I had it for supper.

Japan
I had an uni butter at some department store food festival that was excellent. Tend to think Hokkaido overall has very good butter, in addition to the cliché Belgium/France mention.

Hokkaido also has IMO some of the best ice cream in the world, so it doesn't surprise me that their butter is good. I don't recall ever having any there in my many trips though.
And surprisingly, I found the photo of the (plastic-wrapped) uni butter |
