The SEA Hubbing Continues: New SEA-SFO, Addl LAX-SEA

Looks like Delta is playing hardball in SEA. Also interesting to note that with this addition, the continental US feed into the Narita hub is almost fully replicated in SEA.

1. New SEA-SFO (6x daily eff Mar 28, 7x daily eff Jun 05) on CP E175:

5781 SEASFO 0630-0840
5805 SEASFO 0855-1105*
5734 SEASFO 1000-1210
5736 SEASFO 1200-1410
5738 SEASFO 1515-1725
5742 SEASFO 1730-1940
5787 SEASFO 2025-2235

* eff June 05 2014

5734 SFOSEA 0700-0905
5736 SFOSEA 0915-1120
5738 SFOSEA 1135-1340
5782 SFOSEA 1300-1505*
5742 SFOSEA 1445-1650
5787 SFOSEA 1750-1955
5785 SFOSEA 2010-2215

* eff June 05 2014

2. SEA-LAX goes to 7x daily in June, utilizing a mix of 6x CP E175 and one Delta A319.

3. SEA-LAS will get an extra frequency in Apr 2014 bringing it to 5x daily.

I was expecting SEA-SFO after the LAS increases, but 6 (then going to 7) daily?!?! Now that is bold. Very bold.

Also, yes, I believe Portland is now the only city to have a DL NRT flight but not a SEA one. Makes you wonder if SEA-PDX is next ... and what AS thinks of all this.

Also also, with all these E75 flights on the west coast now, might we see a CP base open in either SEA or LAX?

Hopefully this causes prices to go even lower on UA/AS.

A next possible domestic gateway for DL would be SJC. It appears that DL will have more international destinations from SEA. My 2Cents

The prices are already pretty low. I would expect this to be another nail in the VX coffin.

Thanks for the information. Do you know if these are on Delta metal or are they are code shares on Alaska Airlines or Virgin?

SEA-SFO and SEA-LAX will be Delta Connection operated by Compass (the SEA-LAX flying will transition from SkyWest to Compass).

I believe SEA-LAS will be flown by Delta Connection operated by SkyWest.

Those flights are in the 5xxx range, which is Delta Connection and not in the 7xxx or 9xxx range which would indicate (at least for these routings) codeshares. Also, the only Virgin codesharing happening right now is with VS across the pond and not the domestic (albeit separate) company.

As a side note, it looks like SLC-SFO is also receiving E175 flying as well.

I hope Delta isn't purposely trying to pick a fight with AS. The partnership with Alaska is one of the few remaining good things. We see what happened with Korean (arguably the best airline in the Skyteam alliance).

While I'm not surprised to see SEA-SFO added, one really has to wonder if DL is planning to serve every popular AS route out of SEA. If they are, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a DL-operated SEA-ORD.

Having the new routes served by E175s is a good decision, though it makes one wonder what AS's response will be. Maybe AS will codeshare on the new routes out of SEA and place the 737s currently flying the routes elsewhere. If something like that was to happen, one wonders how long AS would maintain a Boardroom (lounge) in SFO.

They're probably going to eventually have to start sending people over to the Sky Club at least temporarily, if not even permanently, since T1B is being torn down and rebuilt once the T3E renovation finishes.

If growth in SEA by DL continues like this then in no time SEA will become a DL hub.

I'm on the other end of this thought process. I believe that with DL's presence in the SEA area expanding that AS has asked DL to do filler flights so AS can utilize their aircraft more effectively. Perhaps new cities or additional frequencies especially with the SAN "hub" for AS is prompting AS to rearrange their aircraft and utilize a rock solid codeshare with DL to fill the gaps.

SEA is quickly over growing its present space. So crowded...
