Thumbs down I have a problem with this. JFK SkyClub

I'm in the T2 SkyClub (by gate 23) at JFK, on a long layover from Dublin. A guy just walked in with his dog in a carrier, and then proceeded to take the dog out and let it roam.

Now, if this dog had any indication of being a service dog (a nice red cover, etc.), I'd be fine with this. I understand Service Dogs, and I am supportive of them.

But this is even worse - because this guy just let his dog off its leash. Yes. In the SkyClub. An off-leash dog. No Service Dog is EVER let off-leash in a public place.

I'm sorry - this is just inappropriate. Dogs don't belong in the SkyClub unless they are TRUE service animals (none of these "Emotional Support Dogs").

The SkyClub lady just came up and asked him to leave, but he claimed that he had a "Service Dog" tag in his bag. The Sky Club lady told him "Oh, no, you don't have to show me anything," and the guy did not show any kind of identification for the dog.

And the damn thing is still off the leash, wandering the SkyClub.

Nice.

Get up and tell the Moat Dragon that the dog is being a nuisance and that unless the PAX can show it is service dog that he either needs to leave or put it on leash or back in it carrier. Otherwise get the Moat Dragon's name and ask for a supervisor.

I keep sneezing. It's because I have a cold, but I can claim it's a dog allergy.

feed the dog some "healthy" SkyClub snacks - that will knock it out for a while.

I'd say it's time to play a game of 'fetch',

or lay a trail of snacks out the door...

Complaining on the internet is not the same as taking action. Go speak with the lounge attendants. Even if the animal is a service animal, it should not be allowed to roam freely in the skyclub. It's just rude.

I understand why the SkyClub lady might not push the issue around the "service dog" part... but what I don't understand is why she did not at least require him to put it on a leash?

I absolutely love dogs, but this would bother me as well. Not because of the dog itself, more the lack of respect the owner is apparently showing.

Maybe the dog had a DM tag on his neck?

I did. And the Sky Club lady told me she saw his papers. I said: "No, you didn't. When he went to get them, you said you didn't need to see them." Then she said: "Well, I have to be careful. I'm trained on Emotional Support Animals, and it's a fine line."

My reply was that I am going to a quack, paying $300, and bringing a pit viper with me next time I come to the Sky Club. She was not amused. I'll be calling Delta on this.
