Basic Platinum Medallion Questions

Are the following statements true?

1. PMs get 6 Systemwide Upgrades per year.

2. Only M fares or higher are eligible for upgrade using Systemwide Upgrades on interntional trips.

3. Upgraded ticket books into Z class.

4. A maximum of ONE companion can be upgraded along with the PM member.

Thanks!

3. Upgraded ticket books into Z class. For business Class Yes, for FC it goes into G.

4. A maximum of ONE companion can be upgraded along with the PM member. I don't think there is a limit to the number that can be upgraded with the PM. Only one via comp upgrades, only 1 via PMU, but I think you can have as many miles upgrades are only limited by availability and your bank.

If I upgrade via miles, do I still earn MQMs and bonus miles? If so, which fare class is it based on?

Yes. You earn MQMs and bonus miles based on the fare class you paid for, eg. M fare if you booked M, and then used miles for the Z upgrade.

Doesn't really matter since any fare that is high enough to be upgraded with miles (with the exception of K+ to Hawaii), will earn 150% miles/MQM's anyway, which is the same as any paid premium fare!

I have yet to receive PMU certificates or platinum packet for 2008. I qualified in late December. Anybody else in same boat? Just wondering at what point should I call and ask...

So you're a Platinum Medallion now? Just making sure because your profile says "GM." It takes awhile for Delta to get the packets out, depending on when in late December you qualified, DL might wait until February and send yours with all the renewals.

Yes--based on my experience, a first-time PM qualification late enough in December will get your PM packet lumped in with the renewing PM packets, rather than having the standard two-week-or-so arrival time.

I qualified for PM for the first time with a flight on 12/22/07 and I received my plat packet around 1/14/08.

A question Along these same lines....PMU's can be used for domestic:eek: travel but it cannot be LU or T fares...Is that right. If I had to use them domestically is the LUT the only limitation?

Correct. For Domestic PMUs, you would need to purchase Y, B, M, H, Q, or K.

Thanks...are domestic upgrades generally capacity controlled with these higher fare levels as well?

I suspect my business intl travel will be quite limited this year so I am trying to figure out what the best way to use these PMU's would be other that the bottom of the birdcage (as I have read).

For domestic, it is up to you. Since you're a PM, your complimentary upgrade (of all fares including LUT) percentage is high. However, you're ATL based so that reduces your %.

Best thing to do is call SMS and check inventory and prices. It is up to you to see if it is worth the fare difference. Obviously for domestic, better to use a PMU for a long flight instead of a short hop.
