I take it Medallions still get the 3 bags at 70 lbs though?

DLres,Thanks! You are a great help to us who fly DL a lot. Though I don't often check in luggage, many do and will want to know this info. I (we) sure appreciate YOU!

Looks like the "accountants" are starting to take over running DL management again.

They never stopped.

Nor should they.

As far as the pet in cabin fees are concerned, Delta's is still a better deal than other carriers. UA and NW are $80 each way. CO is $95 each way.

thanks for the heads up!

From my understanding, the allowances will still be the same for Platinum, Gold, and Silver.

Also, there are some changes to sports equipment not stated in the first post. Golf clubs and ski equipment will have weight and size dimension limits that will also incur additional charges if outside of stated parameters.

While I'm a bit taken back by the "silent" implementation of the charge increases (sort of like the SDC/change fee changes in August), I think DL is trying to normalize its rate structure with the rest of the industry.

Cheers.

Raise fares and raise nickel and dime charges -- much more than nickels and dimes -- is something the airlines seem to get a kick out of doing. Hopefully this won't affect PMs. If it does, there's always Star Alliance luggage allowances for Star Gold elites for those trips -- business or leisure, paid with cash or with miles -- where luggage allowance counts.

A FAQ attach to the original memo:

"Will our Platinum and Gold Medallion members, (Silver, Gold and Platinum) continue to be exempt from the 51-70lbs excess baggage charges? Will that apply to golf bags and ski bags?
Yes, our PMs, GMs, FOs and those passengers traveling in First/Business class cabin will still be allowed to check up to 70lbs at no additional charge and that will apply for golf equipment and ski/snowboard bags on Delta and DCI operated flights only."

Thanks for the update zsmith2. Good to see that this "enhancement" won't really affect Medallions.

Let me preface this by saying that I check 5 -7 bags (work equpment) every time I fly.

By "memo," are you refering to some sort of internal DL communication? Because I learned about the fee increase when the TA handed me a receipt that was 50-percent higher than normal when I paid the EBC at Atlanta on Sunday. Would it be too much to ask for DL to send an e-mail (sort of like the ones they send about their online 'Amazing Race'-style contests), at least to elites, notifying us of this change? Did any customers receive advance notice of these fee increases?

BTW, all these fee increases, is this what they mean when they say to succeed an airline must "change"? Because these "changes" are really impacting my bottom line.

I was willing to buy my cat "Sugarbear" a full fare seat on AF a couple of years ago and they said no. When I asked why not, they told me "They were concerned about their passingers comfort". I then asked how 3 crying babies that cried 6 of my 8 hours previous flight was to my comfort, they had no answer. I've had people tell me, who had allergies that they would rather sit next to a cat than a kid.

Time for the cat to get a job.

I'm sure she could lick envelopes, she could also become a "copycat" like the one in the Kinkos commercial. :D
