My favorite is when both lines are open and empty and certain elites still insist on using the breezeway even there is no line in either forcing the GA to leave the scanner to get their BP, scan it and then return it to them. I mean, at some point, WE GET IT. You're elite. If there is no line in either, isn't it easier to board through the line closest to the gate agent?

It has nothing to do with "you're elite." The sign and the carpet cry "board here" so I do. And now 99% of the time DL closes off the non-elite line so they must prefer it that way as well.

I've never seen the GA leave the scanner to come to the Breezeway line. In my experiences, if there are people in the general lane, the GA just holds them for a second and motions the Breezeway person forward. In those cases, it makes no difference which line, you're still walking up to the scanner.

Agreed that the Breezeway is working MUCH better than it did before, but still think that the sign and carpet giving inconsistent direction sums up how shoddy DL was in implementing and training its people around the Breezeway. Just thought it was kinda funny.

Actually, that brings a question I've never thought of. Since you were going out of C, I'm assuming it was one of commuter hop jets. In those cases, are the GAs Delta employees, or employed by the sub-contractor (Mesaba, Pinnacle, whatever)?

The inconsistent direction is because the way Breezeway should be set up is that the General Boarding lane is closest to the primary scanner being used, which can vary by gate to gate, airport to airport.

As long as sign/carpet match up, that's what really matters. If they don't match, then there's a problem.

Aren't the signs reversible? Maybe someone just wasn't paying attention.

Hah hah. SOOO TRUE! The best is when the Gate Agents says "please use the other line, Breezeway hasn't started yet"... and tells the person to go back through the line with the rest of the elites...

Awsome 'breezeway' GA !

Got to my gate for Thursdays 5:15 MSP>BHM flight in need of some GA assistance. Guy was extremely polite, cheerful, and helpful.

When he began boarding announcements he said something like "May I have everyone's attention. We will begin boarding in 5 minutes. Where these two gentlemen are standing is the Breezeway for our elite members. ONLY our elite members. Boarding will begin with our elite members first and then all others beginning from the back of the plane. Anyone caught sneaking in to the wrong line will be given baggage loading duty and it is currently about 3 degrees outside. Anyone who is not an elite member and would like to be so that you too can stand in this line like these people instead of sitting in your comfortable chairs can easily do so by flying so much that you have no other life."

This guy had every single person in the boarding area smiling and happy with the boarding process that then proceeded very smoothly for all. He's Dutch and from Amsterdam btw.

:) Very nice story. I had a DL flight attendant just like that on a flight from pbi to lga. She made everyone, and I mean everyone, laugh and this was a very early AM flight when it takes ALOT to make me even break half a smile. Thanks for sharing, would like to hear similar stories that anyone might have

I love this thread. If more GAs, FAs, and others used some humor and lightened the mood I think everyone would enjoy a more pleasant experience. Kudos to the GA in the OP.

A-MAZING. And so damn true. I'm flying to Vegas twice this month, for rather strange "purposes," as I'm too embarrassed to tell people the main reason is MQMs (although I do love that blank stare I get when I drop "MQM" into casual conversation).
