Complimentary upgrades on codeshare

Hi,
Got a BOS-SFO flight coming up, operated by DL, marketed by LY.
Am I eligible for complimentary upgrades? I remember reading here somewhere that only at the airport but I cant find it anywhere now. When I log into my booking and go into the "complimentary upgrades" section it shows my booking as ineligible, so was wondering how I get myself on the upgrade list (if possible at all).
Thanks!

Should be eligible within 24 hours of departure but I’ve never gotten it to accept that so may have to be manually added to the list at the airport.

Should I reach out to customer service to ask them to add me?

They have mentioned "day of departure" eligibility for such cases of partner coded DL flights on the website at times. I suspect, as noted, this likely means it must be done at airport.

Whos they? Are gate agents able to add to the upgrade waitlist?

If you are a Diamond Medallion on DL and you didnt buy a basic economy ticket you are eligible for an upgrade on Delta.

What is your fare basis? What class of service?

If you have a non published consolidators fare it probably doesnt qualify for upgrades, but you would need to provide more information about what type of ticket you purchased, a consolidator ticket, or a published fare and what the fare basis is for the delta segment.

DL uses special classes for comp upgrades which are unique to DL - SU for C+ and OU for FC. The upgrade processor will not process flights which are not DL coded which is the case for OP. This has been noted here numerous times. DL website has only stated that such flights are eligible for day of departure upgrades but doesn't go into details on how these work.

so even though the original poster is a Diamond Medallion on DL beucase its a LY marketed flight operated by DL he doesn't get his Diamond Medallion upgrade (subject to availability) ?? If when he books another ticket on the same orute if he asked LY to select a DL flight code versus a LY flight Code will that should allow the DL upgrade processor to potentially process the upgrade if space is avialble. On Popular routes like the DL route he is flying there may be 15-20 Diamond Medallions competing for 2-3 upgrades, he could of just not had a high enough fare designator to scoop up the upgrade. You don't always get an upgrade when a lot of people are vying for the same seat, even as a Platinum Medallion.

At the very least get on the upgrade list at time of checkin and checking as online early as possible.

You are technically eligible for upgrades on codeshare flights operated by DL, but in practice it doesn't really work. You don't get added to the list until you check-in, or in some cases until you ask to be added at the gate (at which point many seats are long gone). And in my experience the priorty doesn't seem normal (I seem a lot lower than I usually am). That's anecdotal of course.

If anyone that's received an comp upgrade on a codeshare can speak up, it would be interesting to hear. But in general, I just assume it's not going to happen and don't bother trying anymore.

OP is booked on an LY fare from TLV to SFO (BOS-SFO couldn't be booked as a LY codeshare as a standalone flight) and you can't just randomly switch the marketing coding on flights to one of your preference. It depends on what the Flight Application section of the LY fare allows (the long-haul segment from TLV must be a LY coded flight) and class availability.

He could still ask to be added to the standby list in BOS at the gate, right?

What’s the point? To be #13 on the list for 0 seats?

rylan Aug 14, 2025 5:38 pm

As a DM he may have a chance on BOS-SFO, assuming others on the upgrade list aren't using RUCs... and assuming OP is put on the upgrade list with the correct priority for DM... and activated so they appear on the upgrade list and not just standby list or something else.

I had a curious experience in May this year when I was upgraded to FC on DL JFK-DCA which was AF-marketed as codeshare, and on top of that I used my FB gold for that itinerary not my DL gold. I didn't even check the upgrade list as I was sure no way I will be upgraded as an FB gold on an AF codeshare, so was stunned at the gate when a new BP got out of the printer. Surely a one-off
